It works for this game and mass effect legendary (most likely others) to fix achievements and not need to use EA App that's somehow worse than Origin. Many features are limited on this Origin patch, but if they are already on your friends list you'll be able to invite them.

I had the same problem, just enter your friend's nickname manually and everything will be ok.
