How to play with a friend?

I have a copy of the game and I want my friend to join me (he doesn't have a copy).
I saw guides that say he needs to download a free trial from Origin but there is no such thing.

Online doesn't matter for this game unless you both absolutely need to play with a keyboard and mouse. Even in online, the game is split screen as well.

Not sure about an online pass, but you can play it locally online together via Steam Remote Play Together or Parsec
