Did coop around January this year.
Playing through proper online co-op with free friend pass instead of Steam Remote Play Together (streaming) usually should be better.
But I don't know if free friend pass for this game (for proper online co-op, not streaming) will work with Steam version or not but you can try.
'Have your friend visit the A Way Out page in the Origin Store and click “Play with Friend Pass” beneath the “Buy” button. The Friend Pass (marked as a trial) will then appear in their game library'.

The best use for Remote Play would, ironically, be local play -- example: for games that have split-screen functionality, and where player's being hidden from one another's actions, would be benefit the game experience, such as in PvP modes (each player could position their windows so as to hide the other player's screen portion).
