do the dragon age games require 3rd party launcher or can it run directly from steam

I've been reading some reviews, and they all say the game crashes, the audio doesn't work, etc. Because of EA App. Is this fixeable or they just ruined the game with the new launcher?

Is this game standalone or should I play the other Dragon Age games in order?
