With the direction of 4 heading and how the Inquisition DLC sets up, Maining Female Elf and Romancing Solas felt way more satisfying both in romantic and tragedy.

Cassandra's so stereotypical of that strong, warrior female who's secretly a hopeless romantic and I love it. When she smiles, it's like a perfectly warm, autumn day. I know she comes off antagonistic (rightfully so) but she's never unreasonable and when romantically involved, ugh. She's just such a comfort character. The fact that I can be weak and vulnerable with her, and also stupidly corny, she's my personal dream-soul mate.

In some way's she reminds me of Xena, Stowic and hard, but with a soft side, only because Gabby breaks through her shell. I need to rewatch that series!
I loved romancing Solas. Best story arc ever. I also romanced Cullen and his romance is really good too. If you want to romance Solas you must be female elf unless you use a mod because he only likes elven female which is fine for me because I always play as female elf.

Sera, especially if you play a Mage as she doesn't like them, it's a rather interesting romance over coming that aspect. Josephine. hearing about her family, she gets a lot deeper.

What? Sera doesn't like mages? I know about Cullen having that issue, ever since the first game, but I romanced Sera once and didn't get the feeling, that she dislikes mages. That's new for me.

I really like Dorian's too in the sense that if you two don't work out, he still keeps close as a friend.

I actually love this aspect of Dorian's "romance" even as a female (I mean not able to romance him, but keeping him as your BFF of sorts), the same works for me with Solas as he would only romance a female elf, which isn't quite my thing, so having him as a close friend through the Tresspasser DLC is almost equally impactful like having him as a lover.

Then you missed it, She says lots of stuff about not liking mages. Listen to her banter with the three other mages in the game. She also says other things along the way.

The game has dialogue tree's perhaps you missed something. There are conversations/banter that are triggered by places/events. I thought her distain for mages was fairly obvious.

Blackwall was the character I wanted to romance when the game first came out (based purely on physical attraction), but it doesn't play out in a very satisfying way.

As far as roleplaying goes, I will typically on a first playthrough choose to play a character who shares much of my outlook, but any further playthroughs will be entirely different. Because for me, if I'm going to play again, I want to try out different choices, so I need to create a character for which those different choices make sense. I don't usually enjoy playing "evil" characters, but I try to play characters whose moral orientation is different. One of the things I loved about Dragon Age: Origins was that you had a lot of freedom to roleplay but your character didn't need to be made from scratch--the origins enable you to live a little while in your character's shoes. My male human noble and my female elf mage made different decisions that were informed by my experience of their origins.

But I often struggle with RPG's that have a very fixed protagonist personality that you have to play. I couldn't get into the Witcher games because I just didn't like playing Geralt. I quit the game soon after it asked me why I was pursuing the Salamandra and I didn't really have an answer beyond "to complete the main quest" because I just couldn't get into Geralt's head.
