Dragon Age Inquisition won't Launch in steam(Newly installed)
Hi Everyone,

I bought this game during the last sale and just installed it now but it's just not launching even with all the troubleshooting steps i've seen online and in the forums here.

Here're the stuff i've tried

- Ran the game exe file and Origin on Administrator
- Tried to launch the game using frosty mod manager(it says it needs elevated something)
- manually installed the c++ files in the game vc folders and restarted my computer
- looked for the profile editor in the documents save game folder(no profile editor there since i can't even play the game in the first place)

Does anyone have any other steps i can try? or is a refund the best option?

Is the integration between Steam and Origin just broken? i mean i really want to play this game but going through all this grief for something you already paid for seems to be not worth it.

Funny thing though, when i look at my profile in the Origin App, it says i'm currently "Ingame playing DA inquisition" despite the game being unable to launch

I am gonna say no its ' not broken '.. thought it might be bugged.. I have The game originally via Origin App.. I didn't have all the dlc's so when I saw it on sale here picked it up with all of them.. So now I am playing through stream on origins POS service here an haven't had a single issue.. I wonder if you can set up a new origin account an link that to your steam or if its too late.. If not mistaken I did that.
i have existing games on my origin account, can't just create a new account just for this game considering i bought it on steam. From the looks of it, whenever i try to launch the game in steam, it tries to launch the game in origin and that's where it stops, because in origin it says i'm already ingame.

Is there a way to bypass launching origin to launch this game? i mean it's installed in steam anyway.

Also, i just reinstalled the game and still getting the same problem.

Btw just to note. My PC is running Windows 10 if there's a chance the game isn't compatible with this OS.

It can be a pain to play Steam games on Origin and especially this one. Things that can help in my experience are…

1) verify files in both Steam and Origin (the one with the ‘Steam’ logo)
2) start Origin manually before running from Steam…don’t let Steam start Origin and don’t let Origin start from boot…always start manually
3) restarting the PC then following the steps above

If I follow the above steps it eventually works for me.
Finally got it to work, running the game exe file on compatibility mode with Windows 7 is what did the trick.

Hey...that's great! :-)

One thing I should mention that might be helpful...Origin by default is persistent after you exit the game, so what I've gotten the habit of doing is I manually quit Origin after I exit the game, that way I avoid all sorts of "Origin/Dragon Age Inquisition is already running!" or "Incorrect game version detected, updating your game now!" error messages.

I also noticed you said you tried to run the game from the Frosty Mod Manager...that's necessary if you're using mods but it can confuse the Origin client as well--that's actually what gave me the impetus to quit Origin manually after every game exit. I would launch the game and Origin would tell me it needed to do an update and proceed to take forever to do so...after which my mods wouldn't work! So be aware that the interactions between Frosty and origin are...problematic.

BTW I expect Frosty wants "elevated permissions," so try launching it "As Administrator" and see if that makes a difference.
Is not working ,i tried everything every stupid thing ,what is wrong .... I had a power shut down and the game will not work after that

Well that has all the hallmarks of corrupted data. Try letting Steam do a complete file check and also try loading an earlier save from the main screen if you can get at least that far.
You guys realize this post has been necro'd from last summer... which means it is erroneous info considering Origin has been updated many times and now forced the EA client on us. Allucard prolly should of started their own thread with a proper description of their issue and list of what they've tried in order to resolve it. barzai is correct in that it sounds like a corruption issue but, with this new EA client... it could be that. The Ea client is problematic for a lot of people... which is another reason I'm still using the Origin client only. But, that's a hoop jumping process in itself.
I just freshly installed the game and EA App. It won't launch.
(I play many other games, just check my profile, is public. So no, is not my PC).

Late comment but what works for me is i open steam and then i open the ea app and then I launch the game from steam library once ea app finished initializing.
Had the same problem. At first I thought it's just the game that wouldn't launch, but I also noticed that the EA launcher wouldn't as well (couldn't even uninstall it for some reason). I figured that it might be a problem with the launcher so I downloaded the EA launcher exe from official site, ran it and when presented with the option to either uninstall the EA App or to fix it, I chose to fix it.

That did it and the game runs well now. Hope this helps.
It is an easy fix. The EA luncher has been updated although that does not translate in the Steam client. Go Windows>Settings>Apps>Installed Apps and choose EA app. Press on "Uninstall" and you will get prompted to a new window with and option to "Uninstall" and "Repair". Select "Repair" and the launcher will update. After doing that, you may launch again DAI from Steam and it should work. It did it to me :)

I have the same issue, but strangely I have been playing this game for a few days now, but today out of nowhere game wouldn't launch... It opens the EA launcher, then the "preparing game" shows up, and then it disappears and reappears again in the never-ending cycle... I tried to validate game files and repair the EA launcher, but I still have the same issue...

The same problem with you today (12 Apr 2024). I have 2 games in EA launcher, one is DAI and another is Jedi Fallen Order. The JFO still run smoothly, but i donnt the reason why DAI got stuck :(
I had the same issue, after running the game just fine last night - I think it has something to do with the Frosty Mod Manager confusing Origin or Steam or something.

It started working just fine after verifying the game files and opening Task Manager and ending every instance of the EA app and then re-launching, but I'm not sure which fixed it.
