Game suddenly doesn't start anymore (fixed)
Hi guys,

I have clocked over 50 hours in my current playthrough of the game, but suddenly it stopped working a few days ago. Did this happen to anyone else? It won't boot anymore. I'm not sure if it may have something to do with the latest Windows update - ever since I updated my PC it doesn't work anymore, though that might just be a coincidence.

What happens:
I press 'play' in Steam and it will load for a bit, sometimes I will get a black game window, and 2 seconds later it's gone and the button on Steam will say 'Play' again.

What I tried:
Restarting steam
Restarting PC
Booting via the Origin launcher directly
Verifying local files (all good).

I didn't change anything on my PC or installed anything other than the windows update. DId anyone else experience the same, and how do I resolve this?

I'm having a similar issues. I've rebooted steam, restarted my computer, and logged in to Origin through their website. This started before the windows update for me.

All i know is this game does not play nice with steam since it was added to steam. I can no longer use steam to launch my game. The game freezes and does not load and i need to restart my comp. I don't have my accounts connected but it never was an issue in the past. My guess is they did something with the new steam launch code or something with a software check.

You should also have a copy in your origin launcher right? Did you try running it from there directly? (even people that bought disks should have an origin copy)

I did try starting it via Origin directly, but nope. :(

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear it's been the same for you! Good to know it wasn't the Windows update, but I really wonder how we can fix this now!

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and no luck.

This may not help, but I noticed if I had origins open already the game would not launch. If I shut down origin and then launch it through steam, the game works fine. It seems to be some issue with the origin check when the game first launches. I just tried it again and it fails to launch every time origin is already running. So maybe try exiting out of origin before you launch through steam, although this may just be a quirk with my game since I mod it quite a bit.

I just tried this, looked into my background programs and it said OriginWebHelperService was running. I ended that task and unfortunately that didn't help! :<

contact support, typically they are helpful. Send them your DX diag too, they will typically ask for that before they even move to step II

Do you mean to contact Steam support or Origin support?

I've just tested it. Funny thing is everything works and the improved controls mod that never worked previously before now booted up correctly with the game. I think they are finally patching that stupid origin lite overlay.

It's just weird that these tiny ea/origin updates mess it up for you guys.

Origin just updated for me and it works again (not sure if it helps, but I also verified the files). I'm so relieved!

When I saw Origin updating I thought 'ah, that must've been it!' but nope :( Unfortunately for me that didn't fix things. I'll be contacting support..

Found a fix!

While i haven't heard back from support yet, I got the tip from a friend that Avast Antivirus might be interfering with DA:I.I uninstalled Avast and boom, it works again! Avast has been finicky before so it'll stay gone this time, haha, good riddance :P I'm happy I'm able to play again, hope this helps someone!

Yeah, looking at the other threads here on Steam it seems that AVG firewall users fixed it by disabling their firewall when playing.

For the record, I use Comodo IS on paranoid mode. It didn't gave me any trouble.

You may need to just wait... It may take a moment to actually run.

I played this game all day yesterday (Logging in and out occasionally for various reasons). At the end of the evening I logged out, but then needed to log back in for 'Other' Reasons, and had the same issue being reported here. I tried a number of things, but nothing worked. As it was late, I just turned off my computer (Hoping it would fix itself), and stopped gaming for the night.

This morning I attempted to run the game, but had the same issue. So this time I decided to check the forums for possible answers. I did a search, clicked on a thread... read a few post, but decided it was not my problem. So I went 'BACK' to my search results, and found this Thread. I began reading the post here, and as I was reading the fifth post, the game Started to run.

Since I wasn't expecting this to happen I didn't really pay much attention to how much time passed between Pressing Play and the game actually running... but hopefully based on my Play-By-Play above, you can estimate 5 to 10 minutes. Obviously Not 'THEE' solution, but I hoping the next time I come out of the game, and go back in, it won't be that long. Maybe I'll report back when this occurs... but for now... I'm just going to Play :).

Note: I don't use Avast or Comodo IS for Anti-Virus... but on a Personal Note: If you have to turn off your Anti-Virus Protection to play a game... Don't Play That Game!!!! (Just my Own Personal Rule! -- I don't turn off my Anti-Virus... and I don't give up my Admin Control... No Game is that Good.)

For me, it was the ibm trusteer rapport, it is used by internet banking in Brazil. Once I turned it off, the game worked again.
