Don't Buy The GOTY Edition: You Already Have It
I first noticed something was amiss (or whatever the opposite of amiss is) when I got to Haven and I had some ugly but really powerful pieces of armour and an awesome dagger. This wasn't in my old... ahem... less than legitimate... copy, so I looked to see if I had the GOTY edition, and Steam said I didn't, that I could purchase it. So I looked for DLC. None was available here nor on Origin, but it was on a browser where I wasn't signed in...

So, then I looked up how to use the Mirror of Transformation, and found it's in the Black Emporium on the Ferelden side of the map after unlocking a quest there. So, I went to the map, and lo and behold, there were several locations there that weren't there in my first copy of this game or before when the Hinterlands was the only location available, including the Black Emporium... (Side note, if you use the mirror of transformation after editing your save file to get black hair, the mirror of transformation turns your hair back to what it was before you edited your save.)

The DLC was not available for purchase on Origin because it was already installed.

Both copies of this game on Steam are the GOTY editions, and come with all that DLC. But if you buy the one not labeled GOTY, Steam still offers to sell you the other one. Don't fall for it. You already have it.

Conversely, if you haven't bought it yet, buy whichever is cheaper. They're both the same. Hope this helps.

Well...the only version I can find in the store is...the GOTY edition:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1222690/Dragon_Age_Inquisition/

I also recall that at some point EA/Bioware stopped selling the base edition separately for that exact reason. I actually bought the game TWICE on Origin (and then a third time on Steam) because I'd bought the base edition when it came out and it was cheaper to buy the GOTY edition than to buy the DLCs separately.

Also back then, buying expansions and add-ons to Bioware games was a huge hassle since you weren't able to buy them directly: you had to buy "Bioware points" and then use them to buy what you wanted. Strange system if you ask me but whatever.

But it was a good thought on your part, O Piratical One! :steammocking:

I got my copy during the summer sale, and back then, it was labeled as the base game, and it's still labeled as the base game in my library, and the GOTY edition is available for me to buy, even though my copy already comes with all the same DLC as that GOTY edition. Just wanna warn people not to do what you did, to buy the same thing more than once. I'm sorry you did that.

Well maybe they just got around to blipping the original version out of existence and I never noticed.

Anyhow no need to be sorry, I did all that of my own free will, in part to support Bioware and Steam.

I frequently buy games on Steam even if I think my chances of playing them are low for the same reasons.

That's fair. Perhaps I should adjust my advice, rather than telling people what to do, just helping them make an informed decision. If you want to spend more money on the same game, it's your money, and you have every right to. Just make sure you're doing it because you want to, and not because you think you're getting more of the game than you already have.
