You're welcome.
it's like you didn't read my post and rushed in to be funny, smh
I wasn't trying to be funny. I was trying to be polite. But apparently I need to be more direct.
I read your post in its entirety. I was responding to this part: "inquistion means to investigate something" which strongly suggested you hadn't done your homework.
That being said, you still haven't done your homework, inasmuch as the background of the game's version of the Inquisition is clearly established through lore you can easily obtain by (1) paying attention during the cutscenes, and (2) talking to NPCs who have information on the subject.
You wrote "In game it's like, a militia formed out who-knows-who, on the spot, with no prior mention of such an organ existing in the world."
Wrong. The Inquisition's antecedents and the authority under which it is formed are laid out explicitly by Cassandra during the very first encounter you have with her in the War Room after you wake up in Haven.
If you can't be bothered to pay attention, don't expect others to hold your hand.
That is all.
I played through Dragon Age 1 and 2, and there was never a mention of an inquisition ever being formed, not that I noticed. By establishing in lore, I don't mean "explaining in a game called inquisition", I mean, it feels like something they made up on the spot.
What's an inquisition? Why call it that? To me, inquisition\inquisitior, if reduced to basics, would mean a detective. Kind of makes sense with the meaning of the word and all. Someone who's searching, interrogating, inquiring.
I've played game for 10 hours, most of which consists of running around, closing rifts and helping peasants. I am in charge of an army, because I have a green hand. Is inquisition in the world of Thedas always led by a green hand man? The moment there's a green hand man, we form an inquisition? If inquisition is tied to mage\templar crisis, why didn't they form it sooner? Who would be in charge of it, if it wasn't for the protag?
I dunno. It just doesn't make much sense to me.
Also, no need to be so hostile, like, I'm not even asking in bad faith. I like the game fine, but the title and usage of "inquisition" as a term feels jarring? And you, by the way, instead of idk, summarizing it, just told me I'm dumb.
Mean of you :(
There's actually a small easter egg in Witch Hunt talking about the Inquisition. it's one of the books you can find in the Circle Library while looking for information on the Eluvian.
Really? That's nuts
Do you happen to remember what it said, by any chance?
so you think randomly appearing green rifts spewing demons are heresy, gotcha (even though heresy implies that it's people doing wrong things faith-wise)
man, i love this game but bioware just can't decide what they want to do with lore of this game for their dear life... every game features some larger than life new concept that is swept under the rug in the next x_x
I asked you what an inquisition is in world of thedas, does world of thedas have Pope Gregory IX? honest question!
tbh they should've just renamed Templars into Inquisition, and Inquisition into idk, crusaders or something like that. Because Templars do a lot more "inquisitior-coded" stuff than we do so far x_x
What I keep wondering is how a random no-name is accepted to be chief of that institution so easily, I feel like Cassandra fits role of an inquisitor much better (plus she actually acts like one in DA2)
Game so far was very vague with what exactly am I doing against who, but I hope it clears out along the way
I was told dlcs are good in DAI but not in DA2, I might go back there to check them out, TY! Thank you for not being grouchy, also <:D
