Helmet for Iron Bull?

So I did a little web-searching and looked at the two most recent and oldest pages here. I'm not totally clear on getting a helmet for him. I saw something about a quest, but I hadn't planned on him being a party member, so I probably sold any quest reward meant only for him. I also saw something about a schematic with a bunch of information that made no sense to me, so I must not be far enough advanced.

I've finished up to Skyhold, the first area unlocked with rift over/under the lake, and barely stared the Western Approach. I think I've completed all the available secondary war map assignments as well.

The Iron Bull is a Qunari and so doesn't wear helmets, but rather a kind of face-paint they call vitaar. However there is a unique helmet that TIB can wear that you can get as part of his loyalty quest. But if he's not in your party, you won't get the quest: hence there is no chance you've inadvertently foreclosed that option.
