My own solution--before I got a new controller--was to pull the stick up thus releasing it. You don't need a lot of pressure for this, if you curl your fingers between the top and the stem you should feel it move up just a skosh.
I can't guarantee this will work for you but it's better than nothing, right? :-)
My controller is less than a year old so I never even considered it. But you are right! I bought this one to replace an old one that wasn't working so well, but at the same time my brother gave me one of his controllers.
I just used the new one since for PC and XBox but it must be faulty now because when I replaced it with the controller my brother gave me the camera stopped spinning.
Thanks for the help! Gonna have to see about a refund for this controller but now I can play the game so cheers again!
Glad I was able to point you in the right direction! It's not an obvious issue, so...I just got lucky. Anyhow, happy to hear it's fixed! :-)
