Yep. Lots of doors/areas on maps that you can't access without a specific class. (mage to build a bridge, warrior to smash down a wall, rogue to pick a locked door)
Very boring to run around solo also very hard in the beginning unless you play say a warrior and just guard all the time.
Every member has a quest to do, opinions on the matter at hand, talk to each other etc. Also in some parts you will be forced to use at least 1 other person (personal quest for one). Some of these party members also matter in the grand scheme of the things, have opinions on the world etc.
I would really recommend keeping your companions with you. They have their own missions, they add to the story, and the party banter is fantastic. It's the major appeal of the game. You will miss out on everythin that makes the game worthwhile. And you're supposed to focus on your player character and build your team up as crutches for them. That's how the game works.
