According to Origin I've played 2300 hours of it. That's including about 800 hours that aren't recorded on Steam as they happened before Steam was allowed to feature any recent EA game. Nor does it include hours played on the XBox 360.

So what drives to play more playthough? surely run out of new options etc to do?

Well...not really. Aside from the fact that there's two sexes, four races, and three classes--two of which have sub-classes (though I think you can make a case that the Mage class has in effect three or four subclasses of its own--and then of course there's three specializations for each class.

So right there that's ( 2 x 4 x 3 x 3 = ) 72 ways to experience the game--or possibly more if you consider the Rogue and Warrior sub-classes to be distinct.

Each class starts with four skill trees that have 8-10 skills--roughly evenly divided between active and passive--and each of your active skills have two possible--but mutually-exclusive--upgrades. That by itself gives you a dizzying number of possibilities on how to build your character and of course, your companions.

Speaking of which, you have NINE potential companions--three each of Mage, Rogue and Warrior--each with their own personalities and banters, and since you can take as many as three with you on each of your journeys, the head spins to try and count the combat tactics you can deploy...to say nothing of the potential interactions between them...which are always highly amusing.

In the storyline, there's two alternative paths from which to choose fairly early on that drive the gameplay for the rest of the game. There's other major choices you can make, though few of the rest have any serious impact on the gameplay. But they can certainly influence your relations with the companions.

And while we're on that topic, there's--as is a signature feature of all Bioware RPGs--a TON of romance options you can pursue--though once you've done them, they're not hugely interesting to repeat, except for role-playing purposes.

There's a zillion side missions--admittedly of uneven quality, but still. Each of the dozen or so regions has its own charms and quirks. And although the game constrains you somewhat, the world is effectively open in that you can go to pretty much any region you like in any order...though of course, some are tougher than others.

And all of that is before you discover there's something like three THOUSAND mods for the game at Nexus. Again, many of them are rather slight, but still...some of them change the game radically.

Also, you should be aware that each playthrough is around 70-100 hours depending on how much of a completist you are. So on the view that I've played around 3000 hours in total, that would be something like 30-40 total playthroughs.

But at the end of the day, the macro reason I would give is...I enjoy it. I am not in this to "beat" the game, as I so often see people bragging about. I'm here to EXPERIENCE the game.

And from that perspective you can play an arbitrarily large number of times since once you've "beaten" the game you have nothing left to prove...unless of course you're an achievement hound.

Think of your favorite book, or movie, or episode of a beloved TV show. Did you read or watch them once? More than once? More than ten times :-) ? I know I have.

If you think of an RPG as a self-directed experience similar to reading a book or watching a movie, it becomes a bit clearer.

If you look at my review you'll see I like the game a lot. In my opinion it's the pinnacle of BioWare's oeuvre.

...Now bracing for incoming in three, two, ... ;-)

Even if you watch movie ten times it's only like 15-20 hours on average. You gotta admit yourself that playing single player game for 2.3k+ hours is rather weird attachment and moving on would probably be a healthy choice.

Fact you got that -in bold- would say the same to you. (unless you got actual friends and they love playing with you and playing the games with you).

Though it is quite a long time for this particular game, I do agree on that.

<shrug> I was asked a question by the OP and I answered it as best I could, with honesty and integrity.

Now you two jump in and presume to question my lifestyle choices, based on knowledge of me that wouldn't fill a thimble? Pathetic.

Judge me all you like, but you merely show your impoverished moral imagination in so doing.

I wanted to experience the other races and doing every voice for main character.Like
to play with paragon renegade, tough etc talking options, only meant i had to have
many plays and i think the experience made the game seem new, choices. Dating.

I think question if people care to experience more than need to.

On PS5 I Have 540 hours and Xbox it doesn't show anymore but when they did the anniversary website it was over 300 hours. I only have 20 hours or so on PC and my 4th playthrough I think, there still some areas I didn't see. The console versions never did a proper update too so I am enjoying my playthrough now, the dialogue is still really funny at times.

152 hours on steam. DAI is really not that great. However unlike ♥♥♥ or Anthem, DAI is still for the most part competently made. So I dont necessarily hate it and therefore dont mind playing through it when I'm doing a full playthrough of the DA games.

Interesting conversation.

I don't own many video games, so i tend to replay the ones i have several times.

I have recorded over 1000 hours on a few single player games, and around 500 hours on several others, as well as well over 6000 hours on MMOs.

I've been a Steam jockey for almost 20 years and still have only 54 games on my list - No consoles, just PC gaming on a budget.

I played DA:O & DA2 a few times each - thoroughly enjoying the true RPG nature of the games.

For DA:Inquisition... well, honestly i quit playing it after about the first 20 hours since i was absolutely sickened by the extreme grindy nature of the game. It's a long story that you grind through, with all sorts of rinse and repeat. Rather uninspired.

However, after a long break, i tried again and leaned in to the story.

I'm about 300+ hours spent, with 3 different characters taken halfway through the game.

It's still a drag of a game that i may never actually finish, (on a break now), but it's rather fun for what it is - a good game.
