Dragon Age Inquisition Won't Launch
I've had the game since 2015 through Origin and have played it on this computer for about 2 years. So I know my computer meets the specs.

I bought it through Steam just yesterday to see if I could get it to run, since suddenly it won't launch.

When I click start in Steam, it opens Origins, as it should. But then it returns to the Steam screen with the play button again available. Can't get it to launch at all.

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and Origin.
I've set it to run as an administrator.
I just have Windows Defender, but created an exemption so it won't be blocked.
I've disabled the antivirus
Run a clean boot.
I've reinstalled DirectX and VCredistrib, all suggested by sites I've gone to about the problem, and disabled the full screen option.

It's really odd, since I played this game for years before this suddenly happened. So if anyone has any other suggestions? Otherwise, I will have to ask for a refund. Which would be a shame, since I got it on sale.

I don’t know the specifics of your problem, but you still need Origin Client downloaded and installed for the game to work. I own the game on both platforms, but I wasn’t able to remove Origin and still play. The only good thing is you can get Steam achievements now.

Thanks for responding. :)

I do have Origins downloaded, and have both uninstalled and reinstalled Origin.

When I click play on Steam, Origin comes up. It has a bar that fills up, then the popup disappears, and both Steam and Origin divert back to the 'press play' that you get before you try to launch the game.

So, it seems to not launch. I don't get any error messages or anything that would indicate why the game won't launch when I click play on either Steam OR Origin.

I truly wish I had the answer for you. I gave it a shot, lol. Good luck!

It's really sad to see someone like yourself every now and then comment on these forums about the same issues that seem to just be ignored. From my own experience, and I fully hope someone else will come along with a better solution, is turning to the EA support team and hoping and trying to get an assistant who will fix it as that's the only way I had this fixed for me, to some extent.

Also from what I've seen on these forums it can take ages or never to find a helpful assistant, so if I were to recommend the best thing, is to refund. If you'd like to go back to it I'd just buy it for the origin launcher instead.

If it works the same way DA:O and DA2 worked for me, then I had to launch it through Steam then press play in Origin on the copy of my game that says "Steam" on it. I had to install the Origin full installer and not have only the Origin Thin on my PC. EDIT: i don't remember for sure, but I may have had open the Full (not Thin) Origin app manually.

Thanks, everyone, for trying. I already had a full version of Origin, and it would boot up when I'd try to open it in Steam, but after a brief filling up of a bar, that popup would close and it'd return to the Origin start screen and Steam screen, with both 'play' buttons again available.

I've also tried starting it from the Origin app, same results.

So, I'm going for a refund. Even at 6 bucks, no point in having a game you can't play.

same problem. Yesterday I played without problem. But today the screen starts and minimizes immediately.

I also checked the integrity, ran as administrator, started it in origin and nothing.

+1 :spacehamster:

Similar issue...i just bought DAI and Mass Effect Andromeda on a nice bundle sale yesterday, March 18th, 2022. Mass Effect works just fine but Dragon Age Inquisition will not Launch....right after launch it pops up a screen with an Error Message and states 'Invalid License. Reason Code = Missing DLL : [MSVCP110.dll]

I found a solution!!!

1.- Uninstall Origin
2.- Run the game from Steam
3.- Install Origin from the game.
4.- Ready to play.

PS: Do not disable "Enable Origin in game".

Gonna try this now...i hope this works, as my refund request for this game was denied by Steam, because the OTHER game Mass Effect Andromedia that i purchased along with it, did work so i played it more than 2 hrs.....give me a fkn break STEAM!!! My time on DAI is 4 minutes, and that's from all the Fails on Launch i had throughout the day yesterday trying to get it to Launch. What a mess!

Update: Uninstalled Origin, went to Steam, Launched game.....game reinstalled Origin. Still won't Launch....not getting the 'Missing DLL' error, but the game just closes within about 3 seconds of trying to launch it.

In case it helps anyone a year later, this worked for me but I think, ultimately, the issue was that I'd disabled "Enable Origin in game".

try closing background services...reboot and see if it does something.

I just had this happen to me. I clicked the play button and then it appeared to stop. I clicked it again and the same thing happened. I spent a few minutes trying to find help for it online then suddenly the game started up. I quit out of it but then it started up again.
I tried the same thing with DA2. It took ages to start, but it did eventually start up. It gave some error about running out of cloud storage space, so I guess it was uploading my saves. Which sucks because I don't want cloud saves, but I can't see a way to turn them off.

@RabidGears
Start up the EA client, go to the toolbar and set it to 'Offline' mode. Do the same with Steam client. Then when you launch the games, they won't be doing 'cloud saving.' I should say... 'shouldn't be doing it. With steam, you can ofc open a games properties and set the 'cloud sync' to disabled. But, with the EA client... supposedly you can't disable it... although, I suspect there maybe some way by changing some code lines in the client's files maybe. I still use Origin and not messing with that crapware they're calling the EA client for as long as I can get away with it. So... I'm not certain of it but, if I'm forced into using it... I'll be cracking open every bit of code I can on that junk of a client.
