Is the origin thing really that bad?
I want to get this game, I already own in on origin but I just wanted to have all dragon age games on steam, but reading through reviews it looks like origin is breaking the game and making players disconnect and crash constantly, is it really as bad as those reviews are making it seem?

I had a couple of mods installed and I'm running the game from Frosty Mod Manager. Runs smoothly, no crashes and I'm 33 hours in. Maybe this helps avoid the Origin problem?

Yes there are issues, but for most people, adding the game as an exception to their antivirus software makes it work fine. For the Steam version specifically, the most common issues are related to the account linking process or the extra overlay. Other than these, if the game works for you on Origin, then it will most likely work on Steam too. If you come across any other issues, there are some discussions on Steam and guides on the internet that can help you troubleshoot these problems.

fwiw i haven't had any issues other than just the concept of a launcher launching another launcher to launch a game being bad and slightly annoying.

I bought it and played it, and the only issue I have encountered so far is the extra wait: Origin must start and sync with Steam. Apart from 2-3 minutes, that's it.

Just bought and started first playthrough via Steam simply to be shunted into setting up Origin, which was a grand PITA as all these things are. However, game runs fine via Origin and I'll probably be ignoring Steam and accessing via Origin in future to cut down load time etc.

Malevolent Tapir (Post 6) has the inconvenience take on why the PITA in the first place.

It just seems ridiculous Bioware can't have Steam do the biz for them when the game's bought thru Steam in the first place. It's not a case of overkill, but more like simple pettiness.

However, there are monetary concerns overriding the anti-piracy/security point of DRM in the first place. Clearly Origin want to get the dope on you for further cash raising purposes rather than leave all that to Steam. It's called capitalism after all, not charity...

steam has a major issue with verifying the dlc. you could be playing fine for 20 or so hours then get locked out of your Save for "Not having the dlc"

I played dai on origin, got it through ea play on steam, played it again. Decided to buy the game on steam (because I only had the base game on origin anyway) suddenly I wasn’t able to play because I was missing dlcs even though the ea play version is the same as the one you’re able to buy.

Anyway, that issue eventually got resolved through ea support. Everything seemed fine until I recently started finishing up all my achievements and realised they refused to unlock on steam, because it wasn’t recognising that the game was running.

Sooo unless you care about hours or achievements being clocked, I guess there’s not much issue. But personally it’s been a painful experience even if I managed to get everything I wanted out of the game.
To me its about security. Having another entity with your private information is just another opportunity to get your information hacked and leaked. It's more about keeping as small a footprint as possible and having multiple platforms and launchers just increases personal risk.

I'm also on the same bandwagon. I own all DA on Origin and I want to have DA:I on Steam (Also want to play it once again with mods and lotsa stuff). I remember having an issue with Avast back then, but i've keep reading the same, that Steam ver for some reason due the Origin "lite" call from Steam client, makes the game run attrocious.

Im tempted but... yeah... demn EA

On my part, there is a slight delay when loading the game as well as some lag and freeze during the first 10 minutes of playing afterwards everything works fine and i have been playing for around 90 hours so far.

Yes. The game will not start whatsoever no matter what you do.
