Templars or Mages? And why did you choose one over the other?
Just wondering what the prevailing preference is among players. While I know there is no real benefit or hindrance to choosing either, I think it would be fun to know.

The problem is you, not Bioware. You're just too dumb to notice the holes in your logic - like the elves mentioned.
Feels like you’re about to go “video games cause violence” with this attitude man.
So I was hoping for an interesting discussion/debate on the topic. Was even expecting quite a few uncommon takes on the issue considering there were over 100 replies. Come in here and instead see someone seemingly losing their mind over a fictional oppressed group of people for around 50 posts. Not sure why I expected differently on these forums
Actually on topic because I do hope this thread doesn't get locked. I personally have my mage herald conscript the mages because the post game cutscenes imply that they create a mage order well regarded by the people that way, especially if leliana is divine.

Also one thing has bothered me. Since the seekers show that they know how to purposefully create abominations using positive spirits, why haven't they done that with the mages? Would solve a lot of issues of potential negative spirit abominations showing up in towers.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Now that I think about it I can't really remember that outcome, I should check some videos.

Oh yeah it's pretty cool. You create a mage college attached to the inquisition called the Bright Hand.

Personally I've always thought that one of the main problems with the mages was one of public perception. If everyone is afraid of them and told they're evil and dangerous, then of course newly awakened mages are going to hide and live in constant fear. Which in turn attracts negative spirits to them.

Whereas if you have mages attached to and visibly helping a peacekeeping organization like the Inquisition, then they'll be viewed as heroes and voluntarily come in for training

That's interesting. On my "canon" run I gave them freedom and (Note for new players - big SPOILER ahead) disbanded the Inquisition.

Great point by the way! I remember the atmosphere in the Circle in Origins, that pressure it's what led Jowan's events after all.

Something like that is too hard of a concept for that Texan, he thinks mages cannot be trusted, no matter what.
Pretty certain he just has a strong opinion based on what would be / is a common fear if he was in the world himself so quite understandable and fitting tied more into actually playing out and seeing the fears come into reality many times over.
Now there is debate to be made on the fact the horrible things are also often caused by how they are treated, the failings on templar/chantry, non mages doing just as much if not more damage then a mage, etc... which is purpose of his/this post .. in first place.

That is all overall it is not something bad in fact, he seemingly does understand some the bad parts of what being done to the mages and can understand things when talked to normal ->
(like back on post #23 when I pointed out his small flaw on Chantry with Lyrium+templars argument and he replied 3 posts later with, "fair point").

Any ways I am surprised this was not locked down with how long you 2 and semi 3 argued non stop, suggest once again 1 or more you just drop it since it contributes little if anything and the whole, takes two (or more) to make a war.
Though if you enjoy it guess have fun and umm idk.

This right here - When I play the game, I don't just play a character, I immerse myself into the world, and play the game as if I am actually living in it. What would a non mage Herald do given the world history, and current events surrounding the Mages, with the information at hand. Do the mages have a legitimate gripe, absolutely, and i never denied that aspect. At the same time, The Chantry, Templars, and common folk also have a legitimate gripe concerning the mages. It only takes one mage to destroy a town like Redcliff, on a populace that is not prepared to deal with such an event. The rebuttal that Firehawk continually applied was "slippery slope", but fails to acknowledge that my argument is not based upon what might happen, or maybe happen, it is based upon My Heralds lived experiences in the game. When we announced we were not Templars to the Apostate Mages of the hinterlands, they still attacked me, When I went to Redcliffe to speak to the Archmage, I learned that a tevinter mage has been manipulating time, and manipulated the rebel mages into indentured servitude for an undisclosed time - which, to my Herald, is worse fate then being in a circle. My Herald MUST balance the needs and wants of the general populace, not just one faction of the populace. As I have said repeatedly, I can effect change upon the Templars, as the Templar order is strictly a Ferelden/Orlais institution, I cannot change the mages - there will always be Tevinter, and their mages/rulers to contend with, and it is the Templars (or an order similar to Templars) that have kept them from subjugating the rest of the world as we know it.
I just finished DA2, I was a chantry/templar hating blood mage the whole gameplay. I plan on doing the same in DA3. This is an RPG, and for me it's the role I enjoy playing. I'm not going to get political like others here, that's what I have enjoyed, you got to find your own lol. Curious what the numbers would be if it came down to a vote though?

fair enough. That is the bottom line, how YOU personally enjoy playing.

I liked how the situation was treated in DA3, both sides have their own shades of grey. Make sure to import your World State. ;)

Importing your world states from previous games adds quite a bit of flavor to the world of Inquisition. It is nice to hear certain people speak of your warden, or hero, from the previous games.
