alpha quillback nonsense

Killed 3 alpha quillbacks, only 2 had drops. I've spent hours looking for more (killing and looting every normal quillback along the way). I need a work around. I don't have the perk that lets me just go buy it otherwise I'd just do that.

Have you unlocked the area by the keep, the one which allows you to cross the sulphur vents right opposite the keeps gate ? usually there's one Alpha that spawns between crossing the bridge and the ladder that takes you up to some ruins

The game only spawns 3 alphas to my understanding and I have killed 3 of them. I'm hoping for something along the lines of skipping the quest or adding the item somehow.

Well if you killed the 2 Alpha's between the 1st campsite and the southern most campsite, and the one which spawns on the other side of the sulphur vents then either farm regular quillbacks or take the shortlist perk and buy from the Dalish vendor, on my last playthrough I had 4 spines before killing the last Alpha, I don't know about adding it through console-sorry

I am doing this quest at the moment and am having the same problem. I defeated the first group of quillbacks by the quarry and the alpha didn't drop a spine... I defeated the next two groups and got two alpha quillback spines. Now I am left missing one spine and cant find a way to get the game to make them respawn.

I'm sorry necromancer. I know I solved this problem nearly a year and a half ago, but for the life of me I can't recall what my solution was.

The alpha drops can be delayed for some reason. One didn't drop one for me and when I later returned to where it died, the spine was there. Also, regular quillbacks have a slight chance to drop the spines. If all fails there is the "Short List" Inquisition perk that makes the dalish merchant in the Exalted Plains sell them infinitely but there is no guarantee they will be in stock.
