Playing with a Ps4 controller

I am able to play with an x box controller, but when I try with a ps4 controller it tells me I need an x input controller and I was wondering if there is any way to play with ps4. My xbox controller was chewed by my dog forever ago and In general isn't well maintained as I was young when I used it so I would really like to play with my ps4 controller.

I found another controller on my system and got rid of it like the post said to but when I launch the game it still tells me I don't have a controller plugged in and I'm not finding anything else on the forms to help it. :(

Well, five years ago it was recommended to use either the Xpadder program or the X360ce. I do not know how relevant this is now (I personally prefer a keyboard and mouse):

I tried for an hour and you know at some point it just isn't worth it so I refunded and maybe I'll try again later. It is super annoying that the xbox controller works totally fine and the ps4 doesn't when the game is out on ps4.

PS4 gamepads are not native to PC nor officially supported by Sony. Xbox gamepads have been the essentially official gamepad for PC since about 2006.
