There are also a few locations where the police AI will have a hard time keeping up or stop entirely chasing you. Places like the race track near the start of the game and the Edgewood Mall rooftops. (Locations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBB6JUcvJoo )
If you are new to the game, I recommend ending the night around heat 2. If you unlock repair kits, you can push for 3 until you have a car that can exceed 200+mph (325kmh).
Once you have a car that can exceed this limit, you WILL have to race at heat 3 and 5 consecutively on the same night and return home for endgame parts. In my opinion, this is one of the most fun part of the game and wish there was more to it.
And atleast, there is a trick to escape from every heat level.
If you are on the middle of the map at the old shopping mall, then there is a 2-storey car park next to it. From there you can jump onto the roof of the shopping mall with your car. I've probably done this 30-40 times so far. Of these, individual cops came up about 2-3 times. Even the helicopters fly back to headquarters after a while. That means you escape the heat 5 level on the roof by all means and there is a garage across the mall.
Escaping by Highspeed works also, but it needs to be real fast. At the End of the Game it goes really easy, even if the start of Heat can be a bit frustrating.
It gets easier and it can go probably funny too, just don't give up ;)
Miss the old times where in NFS:MW 2005 cop chases are far more aggressive and the cops are far more serious at taking you down and drag your sorry ass into jail because not only you partaking in illegal street races, you also destroy a bunch of public properties, damaging federal properties and involved in many hit and runs with civilian cars.
Another common place where a lot of sprint races finish is down by the docks. There's a big jump there that they just simply cannot handle.
As for your original question. I really struggled with the cop chases at the beginning but as soon as I got a few upgrades they become a pretty easy thing to just avoid/end.
I don't mind the cops in the races, but when I'm done racing I want the cops to leave me alone.
The only way to escape them is to memorize the map and know ALL the jumps. Then you just jump and jump and jump.
But even if you escape they're freaking EVERYWHERE on the map and just catch you again. So you can't get back to a safe house.
Terrible design that ruined an otherwise fun game.
