Is Origin still required for NFS Heat?

Last time the NFS games went on sale I was unable to play because of Origin (I don't have an EA account, and I didn't really want to make one with due to all the information EA wanted)
Is Origin still needed to play a steam-bought game?

Yes Origin pops up for about half a second before your game launches it's horrible.

It was more the process of making 2 different accounts that stuck me as sus and annoying.
The fact that it was EA was a red flag, the 2 accounts was another red flag.

I am aware that it might be different now, but I really don't want to mess with EA at this point

Well generally I don't like having to go thru 2 services to play a game either but I found that Origin will not let you download a game that they claim requires win 10 if you have win 7. So between the fact that Steam will let you download it and had a great sale price and I already had an Origin account I bit the bullet and bought the game on Steam. It works without a hitch.

If NFS goes on sale again, I can give it a try.
I was going to buy Prostreet this time, (the sale before last sale was when I tried to play NFS 2015/2016.) But they took Prostreet off of Steam or I just can't find it.

I was really looking forward to getting Pro Street (Undercover and Hot Pursuit are my only experiences with NFS).
I didn't really have a chance to get it, and by the time I did it was gone so.... yeah

they can't make you play without origins because steam will get some of the money they get from us

It take likes 3 minutes to make an Origin account and once you have it you can just launch the game from steam. Origin opens but you don't even notice it.

Hopefully it is that easy, since Heat went on sale again, I will try to get it
