Now That TS4 For Rent EP is finally on "Sale" for 10% Discount.....

Is the sale price really worth it? Or just wait until EA caves and lets Steam release it for 50% off later around Thanksgiving & Christmas??

Every review/play through I've seen on places like YT to date are about 2 months old. Nothing new like within a 1 week or so of the last patch. So it's hard to tell if the latest patch --- aka save game killer --- still does more harm than good with your save games.

For those ppl who bought the EP on this 10% sale (assuming you DON'T have any mods):

1. are you still able to launch the game successfully?

2. If you can actually get to the TS4 game menu, can you load a previous save and save without CTD?

3. If you can actually get to the TS4 game menu & loaded a previous save: can you start a new game & save without CTD? Was this because you tried to build/use or download For Rent apt lots from Gallery into your pre-existing save game?

4. If you can start a new savegame from menu, does the game CTD while playing and/or can you successfully save the game without CTD?

Basically trying to figure out why the game keeps failing to launch and/or crashes to neighborhood screen (or desktop). What's the problem with this EP corrupting ppl's save games?

For the last question about corrupting people's saved games I think that it is only in reference if you make any residential rental building have more than 7 units, but none of my builds have more than 6 units. I am afraid it might corrupt one of my saves as well if go beyond the normal limit of 6 units per build and reason why I have not tested this yet. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I overall enjoy playing For Rent expansion pack.

There are various other issues that some people have reported from For Rent that I seem to have not experienced yet. Also, what is CTD short for? Xeriath mentioned as well a few bugs from For Rent that are supposed to get fixed apparently on February 27th, but that is late enough where the discount might expire by then.

thanks for the quick follow up! Do you currently have the EP? If so are you having any game breaking issues playing it? My biggest concern is not being able to launch the game on Steam (with EA Desktop running in background). And even if TS4 does launch and you can get to the neighborhood screen, trying to load previous save. Especially if it's from any of the non EP hoods (which have my legacy families). Only to end up crashing back to the hood screen (for whatever reason).

Basically as long as you don't use the EP's new rental build/play features, is the game stable?

I would not recommend this EP. Is not worth the full price even with 10 % off.

To your question: You can use the rental-system just avoid building new rental lots until the patch on February drops. If you use the rental-system, follow some simple rules:

1. Don’t let any tenants die as long they live in a rental. (Disable random deaths & avoid elders if you play with aging on)
   
2. Don’t let the landlord die. (If you want a ghost landlord go ahead)
   
3. If you need to change something in units and your sim live there use the bb.enablefreebuild cheat (inventory from fridge and chest can get deleted).
   
4. You can disable the rental events for tenants but not if you are the landlord.
   
5. Tenants can make white cake if they have access to a kitchen, this is not because of the foodie NAP. They got coded with this behaviour.

Bienchen has some bugfixes for this EP: https://www.seebee.de/sims4me/index.php?list=36 . She only offers .package mods, so they don’t have any malware on it and will not download any malware. The cake mod is named noautonomousbakewhitecake and is under her autonomy mods.

Edit: I don’t have any issue with my save and my sims which live in rental. One of my households live in 08 Taka Soi 15. I changed the unit a little before I rented it. I play difference households in one save which live all in other worlds. I never encounter the endless loading screen or crashes. I don’t use any mods and never had any mods with this save, although I must add my PC is rather an overkill for sims. I read that some people get a lot of performance problems after installing For Rent.

Thanks to everyone for replying to my post! Guess I'll wait until EA gets desperate enough to let Steam offer it for 50% off (which still doesn't seem big enough given Simmer's upset over the lacking content in this EP). A discount which -- by historic standards --will likely be around Thanksgiving/Christmas of this year. Lol. Hopefully by then the modding community will have some decent mods to fix the game breaking issues this EP has. Lord knows EA will have long moved on to its next useless, overpriced & overhyped Kit

CTD = crash to desktop

CTD gets mostly used by gamer. If you ask now why they not simple write crash... I can’t explain it. I think it has the same reason as some gamers like to write in l33tspeak. It’s just a thing which we sometimes do, as least the kind of gamer which I was in contact.
