The Sims™ 4

The Sims™ 4

Is it safe to install mods now? especially those from WickedWhims?
Previously I read that they had infected several mods from different pages, except patreon, I just wanted to make sure so I could play the best xxx game on steam XD

I'm currently playing with a heavily modded game folder and have zero issues with my legacy save games. WW mod is always updated soon after the dev team pushes another broken/buggy hotfix or patch update. Again zero issues with my modded save games.

It's NOT the mods that are hurting your gameplay and/or save game progression

It's 100% EA's broken raw sewage mess that are the last few hot fixes/patches they've heaped on top of that.

If anything, mods CREATE STABILITY not destabilize the game. All special thanks to powerful utility ones like Deadpool's MCCC, that recent mod release that removes that F@CKING shopping cart icon update, and imemrsive gameplay ones like the SimsRealist mod suite. And let's not forget prolific modders like Icemunmun and ATS4 Sandy who've released hundreds of high quality, professional game play and CC mods over the past decade. Modders like these spend a good part of their day adjusting their mods to work seamlessly with every broken EA patch update.

Just be sure to update ALL of your mods folder. Get the latest versions of core mods like WW, MCCC and SimsRealist and you should be good to go.

ps I'd avoid d/l from CurseForge if you've got mods that the creator have abandoned as these were the ones affected by hackers. Try to get your mods from either Patereon (either pay or wait for modder to remove the paywall). Or over at MTS 4. Or TSR 4 if you've got the cash. And you'll be good to go.

I personally think that cc (custom content) might still be okay on Curse Forge. Just not some of the mods from it.

Correct. It's only the mods that have been abandoned/inactive and so outdated/obsolete on Curseforge that were taken over by hackers. Not mods which active modders like Deadpool (MCCC), WW and SimsRealist mod team constantly update.

But to be safe, I typically d/l the free public versions whatever Curseforge mods I use direct from each modder's Patreon site. It's not only 100% safer, but the free/public Patreon version of a mod will always have the latest updates. Not all modders make a habit of updating the public release of their mods over at Curseforge in a timely fashion. The last couple of game breaking hot fixes/patch updates are the perfect reason why ppl need to d/l from Patreon instead of Curseforge. At least until EA stops shoving out patch after patch in such a short timeframe.
I'm afraid that Wickedwhims' lover4lab mods have been infected with viruses, it is generally a trusted site for me and many, but with the latest controversy I am scared.
This is the official page, right? : https://wickedwhimsmod.com/download
I know that now Wicked also created their own page called Wickedcc to install mods, but unlike lover4lab, virustotal flags a virus called Forcepoint ThreatSeeker Malicious, so obviously I don't download anything from there.
If you use WickedWhims, what animations do you have installed without problems? ¦0
Is there a way to identify mods infected with viruses? I don't use curseforge because I remember that it also had a controversy about mods with viruses in Minecraft and WOW before it happened with the sims 4, loverlab on the other hand because it is safe in Skyrim and Fallout 4, but now I'm not so sure with the Sims 4. xd

So… is it safe to install the Wickedwhims mod to make the sims 4 the best XXX parody on Steam? :VBOY:
Assuming there isn't a </sarcasm> tag at the end of your Vault Boi emoji, then 100% YES.

you should visit the thread that made by James.
He has the lists what mods are infected.
I can ensure WW is safe enough.

^^
Use WW all the time. The problem wasn't mods that are being currently/actively maintained by the original mod authors. It's abandoned/retired mod that hackers were easily able to take over and infect with their malware. Anybody can d/l mods from Curseforge site. They only need to claim they're taking over (or pretend to be the original mod author who's returned). And ppl are easily fooled in d/l spy and malware.

I've never had a virus or anything in the Sims mods ever, nor actually in any mod I've installed over the past years for various games - might be an issue with cheats or so, but the usual modding community in non-competitive single player games doesn't seem to have much of a virus problem. That said, the last time I saw any virus was a decade ago anyway, might be luck but as long as you don't regularly visit shady sites and download there, open Spam attachements or prirate like mad on your bittorrent client I think you'll be relatively safe. Most viruses for everyday people come as email attachments, modding sites like e.g. Nexusmods usually take good care of their content.

There was a real issue that some script mods in background downloaded a malware which stole peoples data (saved Credit Cards and co). We only had luck that the ModTheSims catched this. The infected script was longer on loverslab and a normal user could not find it because it was hidden as code directly in the script to download/install this malware + a modder got *hacked* and his mod was infected too without his knowledge on simsresource.

That was my main fear, since WickedWhims is an adult mod and most of their animations don't have a patreon, that scared me, I really hate the guy who hacks the mods xD
Do you currently use WW after the controversy?

I'm so sorry, I gave you wrong link.
This is the thread about malware i meant : https://steamcommunity.com/app/1222670/discussions/0/4200238624229599955/?tscn=1709066419

However, it's very mandatory you should install modguard from patreon.

I get what you meant, but it was Janus and not James who made who made those threads. I noticed there was someone else called James (but without numbers at the end of it) on Steam besides me, but only once. As for Wicked Whims while I never used this mod i would not worry too much about it being hacked, because it is one of the most commonly used mods just like the MCCC mod. However, this link does mention "Wicked Whims" if I am not mistaken, but I cannot remember where.
