The Sims™ 4

The Sims™ 4

Make Sims 4 accessible on Mac (from this platform)
I’ve used Steam for a few years now, through my previous windows laptop and now transferred to a MacBook. I was elated to find out that Sims 4 is compatible with MacBook until I found out it isn’t? I’m pretty certain that steam had it compatible with Mac when I first purchased it but it seems to not. I’ve spent quite a bit on the game and it’s dlcs and find it disappointing that I can no longer play with them as I don’t have a laptop or computer running on windows. Honestly, I don’t quite understand why it’s only available on windows (through steam) when it’s easily accessible through other platforms. (Had I known, I would’ve bought my dlcs straight from the source, but I didn’t see a problem at the time) I hope in the future there could be chance where steam makes it accessible on Mac, as they already have the application available and functioning on Mac as well.

I think the Mac acessibility is linked to the EA app. If you have that and linked it to Steam on your previous laptop, everything you bought should bei in your EA account, and if it is, you should be able to download it to your Mac.
AFAIK, Steam only supports Windows.

This is not correct. Maia only purchases a license from Steam, which is only useable with Steam client + Windows. If Maia wants to use her DLC she needs to purchase a license from EA because only EA offers Mac Support. Yeah, this is totally nonsense and not customer friendly. I doubt there will be a change, especially because Mac Gaming is again a niche market, and almost dead. Thanks to Apple and how they treat it.

Just out of curiosity, does that mean the DLCs are gone, too, if they were bought on Steam?

If you want to play on Mac yes. As I wrote, it is totally nonsense. A DLC which got purchased on Steam is not useable on Mac. It has the same status as you would purchase the game/DLC on console. If a console player wants to play it on PC/Mac they need to purchase the whole collection again.

Ah, right, thanks for clearing that up. That's a real bummer... I mean, it kinda does make sense, seeing that PC and Mac are different platforms, but it's still annoying for people like Maia who change to a different platform/system.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Apple is sending convoys of dump trucks filled with $100 bills into getting developers to focus on their Apple Silicon platform. And, for that matter, The Sims 4 is Apple Silicon native, which is a pretty big deal if you have one of those systems.

Truth be told, the best laptop for playing The Sims 4, for the price, is an entry-level MacBook Air and the same holds true for quite a few games.
