You can run them all at the same time. However, the more DLCs you have, the more bugs and glitches you'll run into.

As to which DLCs to get - that depends on how you play the game. For example, if you're not interested in the supernatural, you can skip the vampire, werewolf, spellcaster and supernatural packs. If you don't want your Sims to have a family, you can skip those packs, too.

One of the best packs, at least in my opinion, is Get Together. You get a beautiful new world, and the social clubs are a real asset in terms of gameplay. You can create your own clubs, too. Plus, the items both in CaS and build/buy mode are beautiful :)

The only pack that's probably a must is Seasons because it gives you, well, seasons, holidays (the Sims equivalents to Christmas, New Year's Eve, Valentine's and so on - you can create your own holidays, too), seasonal activities like ice rinks or building snowmen, oh, and you get the gardening career.

But like I said, it's really up to how you play the game. I suggest you watch or read a few reviews for the DLCs you're interested in and then make a decision.

I've always been firm that if you can only buy 1 expansion pack, you should buy Seasons. It changes a lot about the game, and makes it pretty proper in my opinion.

This. It's one of the few packs with good value for money.
As Jehane before I can absolutely recomment Get Together and Seasons, the first for its powerfull gameplaymechanic "make your own social Group" the other for its addition of seasons, both contribute a lot to the gameplay experience.

All the other DLC´s are more of the "if you want to play the game like this" style, imo.

Here is another hint: lookout for a complete edition of Sims3, i´ve seen it on steam a couple of years ago (its well hidden because EA doesnt want you to buy it) it was 60-70€ (during sale) back then and is considered the superior Sims version to Sims4, because of its absolutely astonishing amount of content. :steamhappy:
