Best to do might be asking specifically about topics/themes and hopefully simmers that are proficient on that will point you the right way. And watch YouTube videos about what mods Youtubers use, nice suggestions and where to get them in those.
https://triplis.github.io/ <- sorcerer mod is very much over powered, but it has a very good minion system
https://deaderpool-mccc.com/ <- lots of people use this. You can get by without it if you know command line cheats and how to use shift-click,
https://modthesims.info/d/631201/interactions-queue-extender.html <- The famous one by Turbodriver... extends the queue to 16 actions.
https://modthesims.info/d/669907/ts4-premade-household-tool.html <- this one is great. Make your own households.
- few mods from "mod the sims" site
- LittleMsSam
- sims4me
other too many to list, these 3 are my recommendation
Some games e.g. Bethesda, use a game script. Even that can be a source of trojans if they call Microsoft C++
Don't forget this one as well:
