It's been scrapped. Not going to happen. They're making too much money developing DLC for the Sims 4.

Please be realistic. Sims 4 is a milking cow. A gold mine. It is cheaper to develop a new DLC based on current platform, than to create a new platform and then a new game. It is easier to send an update, which limits existing possibilities, and then sell a new DLC, giving the possibilities back. As the game grew, and as it is huge now, development of a new one would require not only a new base game, but development of all new DLCs. It is financially prohibitive. You do not kill a goose giving you golden eggs only to invest a lot of money to find another one. As long as this game is popular and people are buying it, and its DLCs, Sims 4 stays. However, it is nice to dream.

10 years at least before there is going to be a game called The SIms 5 or perhaps never. If it is the latter that means the Sims series will be abandoned once EA decides to not make anymore dlc with The SIms 4.
