The Sims™ 4

The Sims™ 4

Flashing Screen when starting The Sims 4
I never used to have this problem until recently from 2025. The game successfully launches without any crashing, but I briefly run into an issue with a black and white flashing screen from main menu and have experienced this at least twice. It is annoying and wondering if anyone else is having this problem. The game thinks it is trying to crash a few times before it stops and then the screen returns back to normal and can play as normal.

It also flashes black and white anytime I try to minimize and reload the screen as well.

I not a tech guy but I see some screen flash at the start on my pc is running dx12 and Sims is running dx11 so thinking thats the reason for adjustment. I had big problems when started on dx11 but getting better and I hoping for the best.

The screen does not always act like this every time when I launch the game. It only happened twice. I launched The Sims 4 again later today, but this time no flashing screen from loading menu and no attempt to crash. However, I did switch to dx11 and similar to you I think that my computer is actually dx12.

When I started using DX11 I too would get a flash in the top left corner of the screen then when I exited the game my laptop told me the game was trying to change to a lower resolution but then ever since I changed the game settings Display Type to Windowed Fullscreen I never had any problems.

Are you playing on a laptop or a regular computer? I need more info about your case but honestly as long you don’t have bigger issues you could just ignore it. If you get regularly crashes you should look in it.

Adding: They added a new lovely hidden bug as they *fixed* the window mode for DX:11 in patch 1.112.481.1030. (1/14/2025) So if you get this issue since then… yeah, this will not get fixed soon. I recommend just living with it as long it doesn’t crash.
