Says third party EULA, third party DRM and third party account necessary.
Once you've jumped through all the hoops once (unless you want to return the game) you can start the game from your Steam library without logging into Origin manually. However, it will always actually lauch through Origin.
And why would you want to buy something you own again?
origin was bought out by EA after ultima 7 then they went and made ultima 9, 22 years later and i still get cold sweats when i think about that game
Origin Systems that made Ultima series was dissolved in 2004. EA's Origin platform was released in 2011. They are totally different team. EA just uses the name because they already own "Origin" trademark.
I just explained what was what, since you asked what you were missing. Their politics are what they are. You want to play Sims, you need Origin. Been that way since Sims 3.
No idea why you can't refund, should be possible if you did it right after realizing it doesn't work as you want.
Anyway, they didn't spring anything on you without telling you first. You just didn't read it. And that's indeed YOUR problem.
this is correct
EA used pressuring lawsuits to ruin origin systems with some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ techsuits
who knows what Ultima 8 really would have been like under pure Richard Garriott command (sans the EA influence)
