EA, this game gets discounts on steam and not its actual client which is origins

There are sales on Origin very, very often too. The last one was at the end of April, ending just before the sale on Steam started. It seems to me that EA is switching sales between Origin and Steam, but don't want to have them on both platforms at the same time. Just wait until this sale on Steam will end and we may have get sale on Origin again. I suspect either at the end of may or beginning of June.

There is almost always a sale on one or the other. It seems like they just take turns. If you haven't found a sale on Origin, you haven't been looking.

if you owned a company, would you rather have sales happen for your stuff in your own store first? or in someone elses store first? if you are smart you would make sure people come to your store to buy your stuff instead of a 3rd party store.

Origin & Steam are separate game vendors. I bought the base game through Steam, and so I can use packs available on Steam or Origin. However, if you bought the base game through Origin, then you have to buy DLC through them. But vendors can put DLC on sale whenever they choose.

my understanding was by linking it to steam you could then buy dlc from either and it ends up on your sims account?. all my sims 4 stuff is on origin but i wanted to collate it all back into steam for ease of use

No, it's if you buy the game on Steam it automatically links the game to Origin. But the opposite is not so. If you buy the base game on Origin, it's a slightly different version of the game than the Steam version, so it is not compatible with Steam DLC.
