Sims 4 Cat Issues?
Cat meows too much, and meows more even though is happy.
Does buying more pets fix issue? Do dogs complain to?

It depends on the cat's personality traits. Some of them are just talkers. Or it isn't happy with something. Or is sick.

They run away if they aren't cared for. Make sure their needs are met and you pay attention to them.

There is only one other way that I am aware to prevent pets from running away. Surround your house with a fence and for the gate select the disallow pets options. This will hopefully prevent them from ever running away.

If it's due to neglect they will just disappear from the lot. You get a message that they ran away, but they don't physically run away, so a fence won't really stop them. I lost a chicken that way, just not ever petting it or anything, and then it was just gone. You get some pop ups saying it's thinking of running a way so you can love on it some before you lose it.

What about the gate? Apparently there is an option for disallow pets with that as well meaning that the gate is supposed to keep them locked in the property.

No. Just like children get taken away, if you neglect the pets, they will 'run away'. There's nothing you can do to lock them in. They will just disappear from wherever you locked them.

That sucks. If the game were to be more realistic the pets should not be allowed to run away from a locked gate. It would add more realism to game play. Take notice for example from The Sims 3 the pets get taken away instead of running away if neglected. In this case scenario if it were similar to The Sims 3 that would make more sense with a locked gate, but not for running away.

I suppose it works the same as with neglected babies, toddlers and children. Even if you lock them up in a room without doors, they will still be taken away. So, I suspect that locking gate for pets will not help in this case either. It seems "running away" be the same mechanic as social service taking children away, only named differently.

Especially with chickens. Them running away despite the gate being locked is just plain stupid and would never happen in real life.

If a farm animal or pet runs away is there any way to get them back?

After watching a youtube video apparently there are various different ways to get them to return back. Contrary to losing custody of a child younger than a teen there is apparently a way to get a pet back. Just wish that the game were to take a more realistic approach when it comes to prevention of running away with fences and locked gates.

I don't know of any way of getting them back. Once they've been taken (or 'run away') they are removed from the game. They are not available if you look them up for adoption, for example, and they do not become strays in the neighborhood.

It seems like a lot of people are confused...pets don't run away due to neglect. Chickens do, cows and llamas do. But the game treats farm animals differently from pets. Cats and dogs run away randomly, and eventually come back on their own, often bringing a gift. Posting a bulletin from your sim's computer can help them come back sooner (For me, this is always within one Sims day. Without a bulletin the pet is usually gone for a Sim week or sometimes more). Pets that are neglected get taken by the pet care worker, and cannot come back. Rodents also run away and return randomly unless you give them an intelligence limiting treat, but rodents will just plain die from neglect.

I have a lack of experience with pets and farm animals despite me owning both the Cottage Living and pets expansion packs mainly because I am more heavily focused as a new player on sim families as opposed to pets and farm animals which I might play with someday, but currently too busy at the moment with sim families or doing something else. That information however is good to know. There are also plenty of youtube videos that show pets returning back home usually on their own. I still however think that farm animals running away from neglect even with a fence and a gate is stupid, but that is just my personal opinion. As for pets running away even with a locked gate specified only for pets instead of toddlers and building a fence that is more debatable which I will likely experiment on someday to see if fences/locked gates will actually prevent pets from running away.
