My point is another event coming this early on December 3rd really necessarily? People do not necessarily have to agree with Pixelade and there might even be some people who do not like him as a youtuber, but he did seem to be against the idea of these events eventually becoming a battle pass where you eventually have to pay money and these events are not free anymore. I could also understand why some people do not like these events even if they stay free and want to ignore them.
As for events, i quite enjoy them. The last event which was pretty much a tutorial on how to garden and splice plants, gave me an incentive and reminded me what the game has to offer. I always overlooked gardening as i got bored with it quickly and totally forgot you could combine plants to make new species. Now one of my sims is a gardening expert and experimenting with creating new plants.
For people new to the game this is a great way to show what game has to offer and for regular players it's a nice little reminder of the game play. If your anything like me i tend to get stuck doing the same things over and over. So i found the event tasks to be refreshing in a sense.
I like the events and I don't like the events. It's hard to think about it, let alone explain...
Wouldn't mind being showered with optional and non-intrusive events if they would run smoothly and last for at max 2 or 3 days. It's always nice to get 1 or 2 new items that I MIGHT play with but the hassle for it right now is just too much.
WHY do we need to do voodoo, check 10 forums posts, pray to the gods of every religion, perform a flick flack and cook ambrosia to be able to complete a 6 week long event and get a couple of cheap craps? For an event going that long, I'd expect to get a free DLC or KIT, not 2 items and 10 consumables.
The rewards, as they are, are perfect for a 2 to 3 days things, not more. No time to play? No rewards, pay more attention next time.
But yeah, this is a test. They gonna charge our arses for this stuff in the future, no doubts.
They might do this in the future. Especially if at any point EA decides to not sell anymore dlc in the future with The SIms 4 besides maybe with endless selling of kit packs, but want to get money from elsewhere as well including from these events if EA decides to do this. Meaning it will be either a more tedious grind than previous events where you are forced to work even harder to get them or you have to spend money to complete the event more easily which is probably similar to what many other games do where you have to either spend real money or else it might be difficult to complete an event. If this does not happen on The SIms 4 there is still a chance that this might happen with Project Rene.
You have good points across that I can agree with. I do not know how many events we will get for 2025, but if we get more than one event for each quarter (which is more than four events total) that is too many events at least in my personal opinion. I would not be the least bit surprised either if some people enjoy The SIms 4 more when they are not participating in the event, but these events also seem to be intrusive as well at least towards some people who do not want them. Just because I completed the previous two events does not necessarily mean that everyone enjoys them and wants to participate in these events.
Free is still free. If they make these paid events with better content, I'm out unless I really want that content.
I wonder what this end of year event is about.
If this one works better and without any issues - fine. I'll look into it and see what it's all about = if the rewards are worth the hassle. If not, I'll just ignore it or at least try to if there's another annoying icon stuck in the top-left corner. Or I'll just avoid playing until it's over.
I will spend days creating a detailed build or develop a family and there was nothing worse than the last event that opened up a window that had to be clicked off every time I went somewhere with no option to turn it off. I am currently working on a complete customized safe file that will take months to complete and if I have to go though another month clicking off an event every few minutes without the option to turn off the event in the settings I simply will put my building and creating on hold, not play the Sims 4 during the event, and will play the Sims 3 instead.
To avoid this upcoming event a friend of mine even went as far as to turn off internet access to his laptop so that the game never receives an update to start the event. Is this really what EA wanted? Did they want to drive some users off the game during an event and not be counted as currently playing in their precious displayed online numbers?
Some people might just avoid playing The Sims 4 completely until the event is over which could be problematic especially if these events happen more than 4 times a year and/or happen more than once for each quarter of the year. Even then a lot of time playing The SIms 4 could potentially be lost as a result because of people not wanting to play The SIms 4 during these long events. The problem is that while some people might enjoy these events others do not. If for some reason someone is unable to launch The SIms 4 offline or does not want to play The Sims 4 offline then that means that person might have to skip playing The SIms 4 entirely or trying to ignore the event while playing online despite that annoying event pop up not going away. Also, these events are more intrusive than the advertisements as well because advertisements are easier to ignore than these events.
If the goal of these events is to give players an incentive to play regularly without an option to just opt out of the entire event, EA is completely missing the mark. And the way they handled the last event is more likely to put players off than motivate them.
