Why can child sims just wander into your house?
a random child walked into my house and started playing on my computer

Sims get attracted to things like computers, and the game seems to route them to those things before checking if that sim has any right of access to the door it's behind.

Even locked doors won't stop sims routing to a chosen item like a computer.

What does stop them is setting the security on the computer, or using a mod that does same thing (setting computer/item as owned by your sim then allowing certain sims access only).

EA was supposed to have fixed the bug with random sims not in household walking in without permission from most recent patch update, but unfortunately I do not think that this bug was ever fixed completely. It might still be a good idea at least with all outside doors to be kept locked besides household members, except for when inviting someone over or having social events. I have noticed problems with this ever since High School Years came out.

They still not fixed that...: https://forums.ea.com/idea/the-sims-4-bug-reports-en/npc-sim-invades-home---inconclusive-cause-patch-1-110/4997435

Gosh, I hate their new forum... EA AHQ get closed next year, so I am already trying to get the right reports from the new place.

Like I explained in post above yours, locking doors does not work.

I provided the way to fix this issue.

I disagree. Locking all outside doors has always worked for me in keeping sims out. I played this game not that long ago and no sim could walk inside my house when all outside doors are locked. They cannot even reach the computer.

I disagree.
Locking doors does not keep all sims out.

Even tried using mods to lock doors and neither the game's own door locks nor the mod's door locks can stop them magically routing to a computer or guitar if game decides that is end point of that sim.

Only using the security settings on a computer or using mod to claim things like guitars can stop sims "seeing" the items and so they won't get routed to those items.

You are both right in this case. This bug has more facets. It depends on which world your household live. Locking doors can work, but not always.

As Example: In Sulani I locked my doors and NPC stayed out even if I have there a computer + guitar. In San Myshuno this doesn’t work for me and I need to use Angela’s method which means use the security option + remove my guitar.

James, I believe you that you write that this always worked for you, but this doesn’t mean that it works too for Angela. There are so many problems in this game without any mods and this is one of the bugs, which sometimes needs different solutions/work-a-rounds.

In San Myshuno it's especially annoying because if the Sim living there is a member in any social group, the other members will show up at random and do whatever their group is dedicated to - like working out. If you don't lock the door for everybody, they'll just enter your flat and stick around forever.

One option I'd really like to have is to lock the door for everybody except family members even if those family members aren't living in the same household. I had one of my Sims invite her sister over to hang out while I was playing the sister, but when I sent her over, she was unable to enter because the other Sim had locked the door for everybody. There was no way for them to hang out at the apartment.

From my own personal experience no sims have been able to enter locked doors if set to locked for everyone but household which I find to be amusing that I got clown awards for stating the contrary even though I spoke the truth. As for San Myshuno last time I played with an apartment there I have not noticed any sims walking in without permission if the door is locked for everyone but household members. I also agree that The Sims 4 has various different problems with bugs and some of them might take a very long time to fix if ever, but while some people may experience them others do not. However, if it is an issue then yes you should lock the computer by increasing its security and if I notice this issue as well at any point then I am assuming it is one of the newer bugs to The SIms 4 that broke something in the process of EA trying to fix the problem with sims entering in rooms and buildings without permission. It could potentially be mod related to explain this problem as well.

I rarely have sims wander in and just start hanging out. Every now and then the mail carrier will come in after delivering the mail, look at a painting on the wall or something then leave. In Sulani Sims will come in, drink some water and leave.

Sims will react to objects depending on proximity. Like if you plant a garden outside of a wall with the oven on the other side of the wall near the garden, Sims will often start talking to the plants while cooking or reserching them basically halting the cooking progress. I always make sure gardens are no where near the stove, heh. So, maybe it has something to do with the proximity of the computer from the path the sims are walking? Maybe mess around with putting the computer in different locations on your lot.
