Cheats not working

Can anyone help with this? My cache is clear, but every time i type the testingcheats on or testingcheats true, nothing happens, and when i try other commands, they don't work either. Nothing shows up in the command logs, either. Is there something im missing?

the command is, testingcheats on, and it should function fine, or at least it does for me.

Are you on console or PC (Mac)? One of those should work unless there's another conflict. If you use mods, which isn't clear in your post, make sure they're all up to date.

I'm on PC, it's the first time Ive booted it up on this PC actually. I'll try some of the tips larry_roberts suggested above once I get back from work
