The Sims™ 4

Buy from EA or Steam?
Many people say Steam works better than EA App. You can buy codes for either EA app or Steam. Though EA codes only work on EA app. EA app offers bundles and there are cheaper codes for EA App than Steam specifically.

I'd like to use Steam as the launcher as many people complain about the EA app. I think that when using Steam you're only using EA to authenticate?

Do games bought directly from EA App work through Steam? Are there bugs if I do it that way? Its just cheaper to buy the games through EA, but I want to use Steam as the launcher. Its quite an expensive game and I only want to try some of the packs. What do y'all recommend?

I buy and login from Steam even though there are perks for using the EA app i just use to Authenticate my with EA app. I do only buy when there are sales. Far more costly if not. I have them link and as you really have to even though Steam knows what I have bought. I did get a free kit the last time EA had it but I don't see it on my Steam but Steam doesn't have permission to do some of the deals and fee stuff so that more people will use EA. I have not had the login issues that many post about but neither has many others that do use EA app. I just personally trust Steam and hope they continue to offer the game. I just won't use EA app except for the way I do now. Many will probably give good reference for EA app. The biggest advantage to the (my thoughts) is the deals they offer that no one else can. Steam has the big sales but not the bundles and free things.

If you purchase it from Steam, you still have EA APP running in background. Sims 4 is still configured the old way , which EA APP is NECESSARY to run in the background. I know EA removed EA APP from some of their games (as example It Takes Two).

Logical is better just purchase directly from EA, so you only need to run 1 launcher, not two. I own all from Steam, but I still hope that they get rid of this launcher in the future. Is just an unnecessary step for me which can causes issue for people.

EA app can run everytime you start your pc or other machine. You need to put off the option in EA app for not running and not updating. Steam has better sales and I trust more steam than EA for backup.
I have no problem for playing Sims4 (I played since the 1) on steam. And I prefer the steam app than EA in visual and easy mind.

I buy my Sims4 stuff on Steam, but at times, the EA app causes trouble if it doesn't update. I still rather Steam than going through EA only.

If you buy from EA app, I would encourage you to use a creator code when you buy things, since it means those content creators get a cut.
If you buy from steam, they will get a cut instead.

It doesn't matter. The pos EA App is required either way. I'd honestly suggest you just stick with one or the other.

I don't have a lot of DLC, but what I do have is a mix of both Steam and EA. I've never had any issues with EA-purchased packs.

Correct. It makes no difference when you launch the game if it's installed on Steam. That's where it launches from. For Steam users, the EA app is ONLY there to say "yes, this is a legitimate copy of the game". So, Steam users aren't launching the game from the EA app.

How does one configure this? I only have base game on steam so far. I think the accounts are linked. Thank you again for your reply.

My pleasure. Yes, when you first downloaded the base game, you should have been automatically set up with the EA app and have Steam and EA linked. If you had set up the EA app to "stay logged in", then everything should have been automatic from that time forward.

You don't need to configure anything. Once you set everything up to buy DLC from the EA app (payment etc.), it would be automatically downloaded once purchased. However, any DLC you buy from EA will ONLY appear in the EA app. It won't show in Steam. But, ALL DLC (both Steam and EA-purchased) will show in the EA app. Hope that made sense.

Base game is free still, they're not going to un-ring that particular bell. They are asking about where to buy the DLC's from.

The game is free on EA and Steam. We're talking about the DLC. Which isn't free.
