If you own the game and DLC on Steam then you can DL and use any DLC from both Steam and EA. It's the inverse that doesn't work the other way - Steam DLC/packs don't work with the EA version of the Sims 4. For Steam users, the EA app is there as a layer of copy protection DRM.

this fust feels like an extra step for no reason i have the game and quite a few packs already bought on the EA app so maybe i should't bother?

All you need do is install the Steam version of the game. It's free, after all. Then your EA DLC will work with the Steam version. However, I'm not sure about Saves Etc., and whether EA save games are compatible with the Steam version of the game.

UPDATE: I checked and apparently you can use EA save games with the Steam base game.

TruePaltrax, I've felt the same way. I'd started playing TS4 through Origin (now EA App) on release, and I don't mess about with crossing platforms. I play exclusively through EA App. I honestly think it's best to do one or the other to avoid unnecessary headaches.. all Steam or all EA App. If other players want to do both, let them do. I cba.

If you don’t have any plans to purchase any DLC from Steam, then I would just not bother with it. I have all DLC from Steam because I just prefer Steam.

yea but for me since you need to have the EA thing running in the backround anyway.

Just to add to this because it can sound misleading.
If your accounts are linked. You can use DLC purchased from either the EA app OR Steam. I have DLC on both.
The issue stems from needing to install TS4 base game through steam, then installing all your DLC. If you have base game installed through the EA app, then the game will only read what is in your EA library, and cannot see what's in the steam library.
Additionally, if accounts are linked, EA can see ALL dlc across applications, since it has permission, but your steam library will NOT show what you own through the EA app, since steam itself doesn't have permission to view things.
