TS1 raised the gaming industry bar as a unique market breakthrough into the Simulation gaming genre. Nobody had seen or experienced anything like it and TS1 immediately got a massive fanbase overnight. It was the only sims game of its type. And until superior Sims like NZOI etc. get released, still retains this market monopoly
TS2 raised the bar with GENERATIONAL family game play. TS2 introduced the new YA life state. The first of its kind (and in the industry) to let you control your Sim from cradle to grave. Quite literally. TS2 also was first to come with a limited amount of swatches/customization. TS2 also added playable occults like Witches & Plant Sims.
TS3 raised the bar to the apex with OPEN WORLD, CAS, CAW, CAP, COLOR WHEEL aka INFINITE customization of your sims, the worlds they lived in, their appearances, their pets appearances, the houses and things they owned. What their personalities were like. What their neighbor personalities were like etc. etc.
But really no new life states although Sims could now go to prom by disappearing into HS rabbit holes. But apart from adding more occults like playable vamps, aliens, werewolves and genies, THERE WAS NOTHING NEW.
But by TS4 Sims franchise creativity was RIP. ALL THE FAMILY/GENERATION GAME PLAY & THINGS YOU COULD DO IN TS3 WAS LITERALLY CLONED OVER IN TS4. WITH NO OPEN WORLD?? WTF DID TS4 REGRESS LIKE THIS???
EMOTIONS WOULD REVOLUTIONIZE THE TS4 SIMS THEY SAID. Turned out to be one of the lamest design decisions they've made to date.
TS4 sims are toxically bipolar. They flip between happy, sad, angry etc. emotion states depending on what f@cking objects and wall/floor/ceiling colors are in the damned room. They lack self awareness of other Sims in the room. Like if 2 sims woohooed back in TS2 or TS3 with a sleeping kid in the same room, that kid would wake up and run away from the room! TS4 lacks this kind of awareness in logic.
Don't get me started on the shrinking size of each EP world, number lots and Sims released to date. The fact you STILL CAN'T RIDE HORSES OUTSIDE OF THE WORLD THEY CAME IN. And literally ALL of TS4's EP/SP/GP and Kits sets/objects are cheap knock off clones of TS3 EP/SP objects and Store sets. With the exception of the new TS4 infant life state, THERE IS NOTHING NEW.
So WTH DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO WITH TS5? WHAT'S LEFT TO CREATE? ESPECIALLY NOW THAT THEY'RE GATING DLC BEHIND THAT FUBAR LOGIN TIMER? IS THIS WHERE CREATIVITY OF THE SIMS IS GOING?
The Sims is creatively bankrupt, rotting and 99% dead. TBH it died when the Exceptional As$h@T CEO pushed founder Will Wright out of Maxis back in 2003. RIP Sims.
Wow! I always wondered the difference in TS3 & TS4. Makes me want to try TS3 because it sounds so much better. I don't know if the infants stuff is all that great in TS4 because for me if you have as many at one time as my last family it is a Nightmare! Is the games play better in TS3? I mean the laggy non responsive Sims and the Hired people that don't do what they should. I mean the Ranch Hand should clean/muck out stalls pick up manure take are of the feeder keeping them full not just in the barn but cows, lama, chickens and such keeping them all cleaned and feed. I had a cow and lama go poof because they never refilled the hay or cleaned their barns or them. The butler cooks all kinds of things but walks around doing gloves test and maybe some laundry. The maids don't do half of what they should and charge me high prices and I still have to clean do laundry. Then the gardener waters things but I have to harvest and of course plant but I have my big crops just rot because seems no one harvest. It is almost like I am dealing with people after covid and the return of work they DON'T WANT TO. But they want a high pay check.
Personally TS3 sounds much better and not a money sync like TS4 is. I am not sure If I want to venture into TS5. They seemed to have gotten worse after TS3 and they don't fix issues that would make the game much more desirable and less stressful. But yeah the moods of sims is like crazy. Even the kids.
I see a lot of competition up and coming so guess we will see
I will say build mode is more user friendly in TS4, but it's not bad in TS3. And in TS3 the lots in the world aren't so terrible. And open world makes all the difference. I can send one sim to work, one to school, one to fish at the beach, and leave one home to clean up, and I can flip back and forth between them with no loading screens. None of this follow one sim somewhere and come home to find the whole family didn't take care of themselves or do any homework.
I recommend watching some LGR videos that showed everything you got in a TS3 pack. It was so much more than we ever got with TS4.
Try Sims 3! Even better if you can get all the discs and some old toaster able to run TS3 without any interference from EA.
Yes, you'll have to get some mods to better control your sims and do some editing to get rid of lag, still it's been a lot of fun back when I've played it and I started right after release.
Oh yeah! Skills were a ton better, too. There was the fitness skill, but within that there was cardio and strength, and spending so many hours on each would get you different perks. All the skills were like that. They actually affected your sim. They'd spawn opportunities, as well. If you were a writer, you'd sometimes get opportunities to do book signings. With handiness sometimes a neighbor would drop by and ask you to upgrade a stereo. With gardening, you'd get an opportunity to earn special seeds to grow stuff like hot dogs or eggs. There was a huge skill journal to help you keep track of things. With charisma, if you had so many friends, friendships would never decay. If you sculpted so many sculptures, your ice sculptures would never melt. If you did so many hours of cardio, you never got fatigued during workouts. It was so much more satisfying and rewarding than in TS4.
Witches could fly their broom, you could get some dream cars and drive around, we had drums and could create a band, we could collect metal and have it melted into bars, kids actually went to school and wouldn't hang around weird places, curfew for kids and teens, cops and if you went for the police career you'd get your own patrol car (was fun doing shopping with sirens on). Oh, and firefighter as a career and the fireengine. Yup, that was fun too.
There will be no Sims 5.
