how to go 1st person

Press Left Shift + Tab together. Press the same combo to get back to 3rd person.

the shortcut is Left Shift+Tab (same shortcut returns camera to normal), which cannot be changed, and does conflict with the default shortcut for steam overlay

There's 3 ways I know of to get around that conflict:

• change the shortcut for steam overlay (affects all games)
  to do this, you must go into steam settings (steam then settings) then the In Game tab on the left, then for the Overlay shortcut key(s), change the shortcut by holding the 1st key then the 2nd key you want for the shortcut combo
  
• disable the steam overlay for all games (affects all games, disables stuff such as steam screenshots for all games)
  go into steam settings, the In Game tab, and click the top option (should be "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game")
  
• disable the steam overlay for The Sims 4 (affects only The Sims 4, disables steam screenshots for only The Sims 4, will have no effect on any other game launched through steam)
  find the game in your steam library, right click that game, and in the General section, click the "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" (should be at the top of the list on the right side)
