The Sims™ 4

Is it at all possible to play The Sims 4 w/o triggering an update?
Only a couple of days away from the next update and I am as always afraid that my custom content will be broken by the newest update.

Yes if you set Steam to offline mode and start the game using the exe file. I also like you want to delay updates until all mods are updated.

Unfortunately I bought The Sims 4 through Origin a long time ago. I wish I had bought it through Steam. :|

If you buy the base-game on steam it lets you use your DLCs on Origin :). I thought it was worth 4,79 Euro to be able to buy the new DLCs on Steam

I am not sure if turning auto updates off will work. I will try setting origin to offline mode.
I also will try launching the game with the TS4_x64.exe located in the Bin folder.

I didn't get the update notice on the start screen when I followed the above instructions.

Why do I have to update for content I neither want nor need?

Is it to add a new content icon or are they genuinely updating my base game with new free content?
