There's 0 threat of any licensed engine game doing more damage to the Sims brand than it can do to itself. People have been going, "Ope! OPE! This game is gonna topple the Sims!" with various crap for like 15 years now.
In Sims 5 case we give player as example seasons for free but if they want clothing or deeper gameplay, they need to purchase it. Of course, all things are stand-alone with the reason that player can pick out what they want and then we add a SUPER-pack which have limited items in it for only 60-120 dollars.
In the case of Project Rene I am about 90% certain it is not going to be The SIms 5, but I am not 100% certain at the same time. Even just 90% certainty still leaves room for a question mark even with it being at least partially based on multiplayer (but not 100% multiplayer). I am predicting we are going to find out what Project Rene is going to be called officially starting from 2025 (unclear as to when its name will become public for 2025, but I am predicting that the official release date will be no later than 2026), late 2024 (probably after The Sims 4 turns 10 years old from early September), or early 2026 (probably not that late but maybe). Bottom line is that I think it probably is going to be a long time before we find out anymore new information about Project Rene since the February livestream video from 2023.
True, they only care about making quantity over quality games. As in, they'll make the base game extremely empty and unplayable that the player base are forced to buy the DLC's which are cranked up to extremely high prices, to a point where only a handful of dedicated modders will have to fix the bugs and glitches themselves.
I think that basegame alone from The SIms 4 is much better now than when it first came out which is not an opinion, but a fact. When The Sims 4 first came out it was probably worse than even the first SIms game from the year 2000, but now I would say The SIms 4 is better than basegame from The SIms considering the fact that so much has been added to The Sims 4 basegame since then and combined with the fact as well that The SIms is a very old game, less developed now than The SIms 4, and only had 7 dlc in comparison to The SIms 4 which has a lot more dlc than The SIms meaning that it adds a lot more than the first Sims game despite being much more expensive than the first Sims game which probably the only reason why at least a few people might still play The SIms is because of nostalgia instead of necessarily thinking it is still the best of the entire series contrary to The Sims 2 despite both games being available to play on Steam and EA App. I am however concerned about Project Rene even with seasons being basegame. Youtuber SatchonSims was also concerned about this as well such as for example if you want the full fall, winter, summer, and/or spring experience you would have to spend $160 USD total for each one (40x4=160) when not on sale instead of $40 for all four seasons combined because of seasons being basegame. Even if The Sims 5 (Project Rene?) survives the first year of release I am doubtful it will be better than The SIms 4 even if it were to include single player as an option and not just being exclusive to multiplayer since it is also supposed to be included on mobile as well (which should be obvious as to why that is a downgrade) and not only just PC and maybe console.
