Cursor freezes while in game

Yeah, so, the game loads and my cursor is active for 2 seconds then freezes in its spot. I can't click or move or touch the screen to advance past the Sims' homepage. I have to tab out and back in to make any progress and be quick about it.

I haven't played it in months and it just updated, or "patched." I already had issues with the game with it not starting or it running in the background, crashing, freezing, pretty much all of it. I have a small feeling that my disk being full may have something to do with it. But I tried resolving that issue too and my efforts don't seem enough.

It cannot possibly be my keyboard as it works perfectly fine outside of the game. What I use is a bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad. I ran Steam as an admin and it doesn't work. I tried turning off and on my laptop and it didn't help either. I have a Surface Pro 7 if that helps?

Idk man, I don't want to delete and reinstall since the Sims I have now are based on my friends and I'd lose all the progress. If someone could help, that's be great :((

TLDR: cursor stops working in-game but works well outside of the game. It happened right after it was done patching.

If you found a solution to this, please let me know. I also have a Surface Pro 7 and I have the exact same problem. It started probably around December, but I can't really remember exactly when. The fact that we have the same computer with the same problem makes me think it's something to do with some update on it.
