Very common for people to say this despite the fact that basegame is free, The SIms 4 (since release date and not before release date which some people mistakenly assume The SIms 4 is 10 years old which is actually not true) is 9 years old and will be turning 10 years old next September that is still very much so just as much alive as it was from 2014, expansion packs can now get up to 50% or even 60% (which is only $2 more than gamepacks at 30% discount) discounts on Steam, not the only expensive game made by EA where plenty of other Steam games have expensive dlc as well and not just from EA, you do need to own every single pack to enjoy playing The SIms 4 where you can get free mods and cc (custom content) to help make up for this, some people do not take into an account for how expensive the store was from The SIms 3 even before The SIms 4 came out, you do not have to buy every dlc all at once where you can also buy it overtime as well only with discounts/bundles if pricing is an issue, and you might be surprised but there are other Steam games that are in fact a lot more expensive than even The SIms 4. In total, seven reasons why someone could make a counter argument to your claim.
50% discount from Horse Ranch plus 50% discount from Cottage Living is the same price as one expansion pack when not on sale and not included with a bundle. Even cheaper than that if both eventually go on sale at 60% discount for $32 USD. Obviously, too early for Horse Ranch to get a 50% or 60% discount yet, but Cottage Living maximum discount has already reached 60%.
Why are some people surprised by this? You speak truthfully, but some people surprisingly do not seem to be aware of the fact that EA has for a long time had a reputation for selling expensive games. How else did they become a billion dollar industry? The answer to that question should be obvious to pretty much everyone.
Expect nothing for buying, except for maybe a few free stuff packs if you are lucky and did not get them yet. My First Pet being separate from Cats&Dogs for example was a bad idea to begin with and I was smart enough to avoid this pack entirely until it became free. Romantic Garden also became free for a short period of time as well and while not nearly as bad as My First Pet some people who never owned Romantic Garden (which I spent money on long before it became free contrary to My First Pet), but at the same time I am not going to complain that I did not get it for free.
