The Sims™ 4

The Sims™ 4

Hear me out; religious options for the Sims4!
I think religion is such a huge part of peoples' lives, why not experiment with different religions or have the freedom to create traditions for your Sims, too? I think it'd be so cool!

The only reason I can think for people hating this idea is because they have some stupid political reaction to the idea. GRRR CHRISTIANS MAKE ME THINK OF REPUBLICANS AND REPUBLICANS MAKE ME THINK OF TRUMP!

Meanwhile the same people against this will praise the game being flooded with the ideology of another cult.

This thread is not that old, but it is a little bit. Also, Valley who originally made this thread only commented once and did not comment again which leads me under the impression that she did not really intend for this thread to become a religious/political debate. The point is that The SIms 4 already has a little bit of religion mixed in including Christianity in addition to religions and cults that might appear similar to Christianity.

Take Pope Frances for example where you can easily find him on the gallery in addition to Amish (which some people might believe to be a cult instead of a religion), Mormons (similar to Amish), Scientologists (similar to Amish and Mormonism but contrary to those two I think most people can agree that Scientology is a cult instead of a religion), Catholics, Jews (which some of them might believe in Jesus despite that most of them probably do not), and etc... It is however mentioning that a lot of this is playing pretend as well on The SIms 4 at the same time meaning religion overall does not play a significant role on The SIms 4 when it comes to actual gameplay besides making up your own stories if you want to add religion to your personal stories. The closest gameplay even remotely to religion on The SIms 4 are only Spa Day (which includes stuff that is similar to what Buddhists and Hindus commonly practice in real life) and My Wedding Stories (but has mostly negative reviews on Steam) which are both dlc instead of basegame.

sure its good to be diverse and we already have holidays like easter and christmas ^_^
Sims 4 has Winterfest not Christmas
You can add Flower bunny day not Easter.
You have a Menorah and a Kinara but not a cross or crucifix.

I've been thinking about this lately. We haven't got any deities, and we haven't got any religious build/buy. We do have medieval stuff, but we don't have pews, or communion, baptism, prayer options, etc.

It doesn't have to be one specific religion, but at least include the basics of a religious practice. Even if the Sims pray to us, basically their god, it'd make the game more interesting.

We have same sex relations, cheating, murder, child abuse, and other stuff that's not exactly wholesome. It's not like religion isn't wholesome or relevant. Plus, the company making The Sims "prides" (as in LGBTQIA+) themselves on being inclusive, but excludes traditional activities. That's not very inclusive. We have "pride" flags. We don't have a lectern or a church building. We have séances but no prayer and worship. We have a criminal career but nothing like a priest, minister, or missionary.

I also wonder why in CAS (create-a-sim) we can choose pronouns and orientation, but gender neutral clothing doesn't exist, like we have to choose feminine or masculine. What if I want all the recommendations to be both? After all, I wear both in real life. I don't want to have to keep clicking cancel anymore for the feminine tag for every single time I add one item of clothing. It's such a waste of time.

Just simply remove the tag. Also, gender neutral does exist. Some clothing for example is labeled as "both" masculine and feminine not only for child and younger sims, but even for teens and older as well. I personally like the masculine and feminine tags anyway in order to prevent confusion as to what gender that piece of clothing is specifically intended for. Suits for example I usually do not have female sims wear, unless if maybe it listed under both masculine and feminine tags at the same time or exclusively labeled as feminine. It could also be argued as well that there are not enough CaS options for masculine sims.
I don't want to have to remove a tag over and over again. That's what I meant when saying I don't want to keep clicking cancel on the feminine tag. I just want it turned off universally when I want to.
I have Muslim friends. EA promotes "inclusion". Right. So why does the "SIMSELF" wife of my accountant end up as a flipping MIXOLOGIST serving alcohol, or end up randomly working as a maid (different save file) without her hijab?

I have a Muslim friend (since deleted from my game) cleaning my toilets - she was also randomly assigned as a bartender in another save file - serving me liquor - and not covering her hair. My accountant's wife walks into my Sim house - without a hijab or even a scarf that I applied in CAS -cleans my toilets and takes a drink at the bar. Inclusion? LOL!

I'll just go ahead and start feeding her pork and put her in a bikini Inclusion only includes what EA wants to include. These are my friends. Have some respect.

Like I said previously the tags are important to avoid confusion. If an item does not look quite right on feminine then it is probably masculine or does not look quite right on masculine sims then it is probably feminine, but gender neutral clothing and gender neutral hair labeled as both feminine and masculine (including Modern Menswear which is the lowest rated kit pack on Steam and one of the few kit packs I never purchased) do exist on The Sims 4. Also, do you realize randomly generated male sims to wear women's clothing (including miscellaneous stuff) /hair or randomly generated female sims to wear men's clothing (including miscellaneous stuff)/hair because of their not being tags many people would have a problem with that? Most men in real life do not wear women's clothing and most women in real life do not wear men's clothing. There is however some clothing and even hair perhaps that might look okay on the opposite gender, but that is up to the player to decide that. Also, most men in real life (besides maybe acting roles, actors, and/or musicians such as Marilyn Manson for example wears makeup frequently in public apparently even when not performing in front of an audience) do not wear makeup contrary to women.

**THIS.** This, this, THIS.

I can't agree any more with what you're saying here, and my heart always feels so, so full whenever people are respecting culture, religion, nationalities and the identities of people. You're so right. Think about it! To see a Muslim, a female, who has her head exposed with no hijab (or similar), making ALCOHOL?! And serving it to others? It's ridiculous! We make them look like Muslims, but they don't ACT like Muslims. It's an insult to them.

The good news is, though, is that I myself have been picking up the basics of Sims 4 modding, and because I am someone who makes tons of Sims from across the world (yeah, you can find me on the gallery by Gameboy2936 in case you're wondering), if I make Sims all the time just to discover they all act almost identically in terms of their behaviour, it's not immersive. If I'm seeing an Indian, a Finn, an American, a Malagasy, an Australian, anything, their identity shouldn't be stopping at the clothes they wear and the face/body/genes they've been sculpted with.

My main ambition is that at some point, once I can get some assistance and enough experience, I wanted to create a new tab that is accessed from the Likes and Dislikes, pretty much its own window (similar to selecting from the four categories of traits), and you can select individual characteristics. Unlike the Likes and Dislikes, only one can be selected at a time. The plan so far is that I want to feature dominant hands (yeah, the dominant hand is randomly selected in the vanilla game), nationality, neurodivergencies (AUTISM FOR THE WIN!), religions (as you guys have been talking about), and zodiac signs. Similar to the Sim Characteristics, the choices you select (excluding dominant hands and neurodivergencies) influence how Sims are going to get along, too, especially zodiac signs.

At some point, I hope I can at least see something great out of this. I'll keep you guys updated on if I've found something or if I am making any progress with it. :)
