What does everyone think of "For Rent"?
Is it actually legit?

I'm kind of waiting to see more gameplay then the gameplay trailer to see how much it allows you to do. Well i'm excited, idk if it's a day one buy. I feel like the idea is fun but if I just wanted apartments how hard will it be to keep people living in them without getting "kicked out" or "moving out"? stuff that never seems to get answer until players (not payed) actually play it and start pointing out the problems.

Will they have elevators ...or do you need City living... sounds just like a new lot type like park, lounge, bar, or retail... will you be able to rent the store on the 1st floor while renting out the floors above...Really luv to see a hood edit tool...☻:steamhappy:

Number 1, I found out recently that rentals are officially confirmed to be "rental residential" lots from a Pixelade youtube video I had watched recently meaning that other building types (residential, community, and etc...) cannot have units and rental residential lots does not allow other lots types to be merged in as well meaning that each lot can only have one lot type even with rental residential being added as a new lot type from this dlc. Number 2, I do not think that this expansion pack will add elevators as official build objects just like City Living where spiral stairs I would like to think would be much easier to add (especially for basegame) to The Sims 4 than elevators and would be surprised at this point if elevators as build objects ever get added to The SIms 4. Even with it seeming like hotels and resorts being added to eventually to The Sims 4 is inevitable because of them being highly requested (similar to cars; although, some people are still doubting they ever will get added to The Sims 4 contrary to hotels and resorts) I doubt that the same could also be said for elevators as well.

"Unsure" is a good word I have seen thrown around in the thread. Personally, I had a bit of a bad first impression. The actual mechanics look good, but this is the first pack that tread too close to previous DLC for me.

Yes, I wanted better apartments and I am willing to buy them, but it does not change the fact that this still looks like a better City Living. One of those "entertainment news articles" I saw looking for more info about For Rent really drove it home for me. Polygon writes, "Sims 4: For Rent introduces landlords, tenants, and renting." Except, it doesn't.

All of that was in CL; worse versions, but you paid rent, had problematic neighbors, lot traits were introduced that accompanying update (and specific lot traits that later became challenges were there to simulate apartment issues), fixer upper specifically was a locked lot trait with a paired build item that required regular repairs and maintenance, and you had a randomly generated NPC landlord.

So, unless For Rent launches and stays so bugged it is unplayable, I doubt I could ever recommend CL over it. (And, just to be clear, I absolutely hope that does NOT happen.)

Speaking more positively, I definitely am looking forward to the multi-family lots. The customization and panels look really nice. It is a shame about the loading screens, but I expected as much. What I did not expect was the graying out of units besides your own, and that disappoints me. (I wanted a shaded view of the inside, not a full load. Just something less ugly and opaque than having it fully grayed out.)

If I am to be 1000% honest, I would have traded multi-family lots for a higher sim family hard cap, or better yet changing it to a soft cap that we can set per our own hardware specs like favorited households. 8 is just too restrictive for me, especially with pets taking up human slots. The hard eight sim cap is one of the few gripes I have left with 4, especially since going back into CAS will delete your extra sims even if you have a mod for more.

in summary, looking forward to multi-family lots and hope it turns out well, but FR is too close to CL for comfort and it isn't addressing the hard cap getting in the way of some of my games.

Definitely and think about it for a moment. If you have just 21 residential rental lots (which I mentioned previously from a separate thread) that all have six units (even without using a cheat for removing that limit) that still adds up to a little more than 1,000 sims! Contrary to youtuber SatchonSims opinion this feels like an actual expansion pack instead of a gamepack despite it feeling like City Living 2.0 but with Thai world and Thai culture added into the mix, because it helps make up for the fact that The Sims 4 is not open world.

I agree with that statement. It better not be broken when it first comes out, but I do have that expectation it is supposed to improve gameplay somehow instead of making it worse as well.

i think a lot of people are confused as to what "for rent" is actually for.

it's not for moving your sims into apartments.

it's very clearly stated that you are a LANDLORD, and that you rent out apartments as a career option.

i have no idea where people got the idea that it's a new living quarters for broke sims it says nowhere in the dev update anything about being able to live in the apartments, or if it did i completely missed it when i read through the post because from what i understand:

"for rent" is a career path DLC, meant to give you the ability to flip apartments for profit.
THERE IS LOADING SCREEN T_T

Lots in the game aren't big, and after you build an apartment building, your flat is even smaller, so I am only going to play a portion of the house i created on a portion of the map .... it is not interesting at all..... Now I hope there are some good building items otherwise I do not know if I want to pay full price

That is probably false, because I believe that you can also play as a tenant and not as a landlord only. Those sims living in that renal lot could also be playable as well meaning that gameplay is not likely to be exclusive to the landlord only. If you can play as any household you want just with basegame alone and with or without dlc then that means it is not exclusive to landlord and also includes playing as a tentant as well.

The only thing the videos have not really shown yet is how playing a tenant is going to be different from playing as a landlord that may require waiting for an early access video, livestream video, and/or waiting until the dlc comes out to find out how gameplay is supposed to work exactly when playing as a tenant instead of landlord. Such as for example, how much money in simoleons does your sim have to pay in rent if playing as the tenant instead of landlord, what does the landlord actually do if you set one up specifically but then switch over to one of the landlord's tenants, can landlords live on residential rental lots with their own unit even if it belongs to a different landlord meaning that a landlord can also be a tenant at the same time, if a landlord owns a residential rental lot is that landlord allowed to live there, and various other unanswered questions. Also, in a way these rental lots I think are very similar to apartments, but without an elevator contrary to San Myshuno and Evergreen Harbor.

like i said i didn't see anything in their dev update that suggested being able to actually rent and live in the apartments.

what it showed was your sim being the landlord and having to take care of little problems here and there in an already built apartment building, you had to do things like build the rooms out and supply the tenants with things that fulfilled their needs and wants.

it didn't show at any point you being able to live in the apartments, which is why i said idk where people are getting that it will allow that and how people are confused as to what the purpose of the DLC actually is.

basically all that i saw was that you're going to be able to have a new career path which they explain in the log, and that it has to do with building sims dream apartments.

but like i said, that's just what i saw, if there is an ability to live in an apartment like in urbz im all for it, im just saying i didn't see anything that implied we could actually live in the apartments ourselves.

I still have unanswered questions about landlords and tenants and I would not expect every detail about them to be revealed until later, but that is also true from your link as proof of this. It would not make any sense to only play as a landlord, but not as a tenant.
