How to managed steam bought DLC on EA App
So i have majority of my Sims games on the EA app (previously origin) and i used some money i had on steam to purchase a few DLCs. For some reason i can't seem to merge any of the games. If I play via EA App my steam DLC are missing, if I play via Steam all my other 15+ DLC is missing worlds and all. I already have my Steam linked to the EA App but I can't seem to manage any of the DLC through it... I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times already today from both EA and Steam...

Any one have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I don't think Steam DLC can work with the Origin/EA version of the game. The *Steam* version, however, will work with any Steam OR EA-bought DLC.

Yes, but he's talking about Steam-purchased DLC. The Origin/EA version of the game never used to work with Steam-purchased DLC. But did the other way around with the Steam version.

I ended up somehow figuring it out. I uninstalled both versions off of steam and the new EA app and then completely reinstalled the EA App version and a list popped up saying "download as well" (something like that) and it was my Steam DLC's (i literally don't know how i fixed it considering i did it 4 times but it managed to work)

Same problem. I bought sims 4 on steam (when it was on sale) and I bought like around 4-5 packs after. Now that origin has transferred to ea, when I download sims 4 on steam, sims 4 does not work. When I download it from ea, sims 4 work, but my packs ain't manageable on ea. Any help appreaciated.

If you look at what I said in Post #4, you'll see what I am saying. If you are now using the EA version of the SIms 4, and you own DLC from Steam, they are not compatible. However, the opposite is true. EA DLC will work with the Steam version of the game, but not the other way around. Not sure why the game itself isn't working.

Hi Hi OP here,

how I fixed my issue after magically fixing it before (had to uninstall a few times for a mod I wanted) I found out that you do not need Origin/EA to play. just link your Steam account to the Origin/EA app (it will login every time you start the game via Steam) and I just went into my EA folder for the sims and just copied all of the EP file folders into where you have Steam installed and into the "The Sims 4" file for steam. Works every-time even if you purchase an EP off of Origin/EA app just gotta move it over to the Steam folder (I'm sure its the same way around if you want it through the Origin/EA app)

I found if you bought DLC and packs on origin then you use origin launcher to manage dlc and packs then it allows you to use those in steam as normal. just requires you to install from the source i guess. works other way around FYI so any steam bought packs if you tried playing via origin need managing first via steam to work with origin. People saying incompatible but im confused with that as it clearly worked for me by managing that dlc from the purchasable source first before using on opposite side.

you need to merge installs. for example if you install on the EA app your game and EA DLC under (just a random example) C:\my EA games\the sims 4 you need to make steam to install it on the same folder. once you launch your game from any app it will see ALL the DLC combined. you also need to link your STEAM and EA app account. dont remember how did it a long time but its under the account options. this also works for the epic version, like a month ago they give out a 3 expansion deal for free (i have them already anyways) and making epic to install on the same folder will also merge the installs. in that case also connect epic acc with steam and EA app acc.

I don't understand why people are having such huge issues. I have DLC purchased from both Steam and EA (bought some while using Origin) I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with any of the DLC. I cannot see any of the EA DLC in Steam, but I see ALL DLC - whether Steam or EA - within the EA App. Everything works 100%. Never had a single issue since I bought the Sims 4 two years ago. I never had to juggle any of the DLC from Steam app to EA app, or vice versa, like I see people having to.

Hiiiii! Had the same problem and i didn't want to delete tEA and wait fFOREVER for it to download ( i don't have the best computer so it takes a long time ) so i messed around a bit and opened the EA app on its own ( not where it says its opened from another app ) looked at my add-ons and one of them ( snowy escape ) had a button that said "play" so i pressed it and the sims opened with both of the DLC's i had bought. Hope this helps!!!!

Nothing. The EA Desktop app will run/launch regardless of whether you launch the game on Steam or Origin.

Second, the reason for the issue you're experiencing is that Origin bought DLC are NOT backwards compatible with Steam.

You can ALWAYS play any Steam bought TS4 DLC on Origin. But you CAN'T play any Origin bought DLC by launching the game on Steam.

The first reason why EA did this was to combat piracy. Hence the DRM infested spyware that is Origin and EA Desktop. The second reason is that this persistent online connection allows EA to keep tabs on Simmers. By exploiting/monetizing you as a player while forcing you to play with a persistent online connection. Apparently EA has leaned NOTHING from the failure that was SC5. d

And the way to do that is to make players indirectly launch the game through their Origin platform (if they're launching the game on Steam.

How? Through registering all your Steam based TS4 game keys on the publisher site (in this case Origin). Steam tends to have DLC keys for certain publishers like EA, Ubisoft etc. So players have to register their Steam bought TS4 DLC by LINKING their Steam account to their Origin one. EA Desktop app will NOT launch the game otherwise. Also note if either the Origin or EA Desktop app become corrupted (often due to game updates), then you'll have to either repair and/or reinstall their latest versions.

Why? Because Origin cannot compete with the sheer number of PC gamers who prefer to play their games on a superior gaming platform. aka Steam. This is why Steam bought TS4 DLC is NOT backwards compatible with Origin. It's the only way EA can keep track of (and so monetize) the bigger Steam TS4 player base. And this goes for any EA publisher game franchise btw. Not just TS4.

Either stick to Steam or Origin. And buy all your TS4 content on one platform or the other. So you avoid your DLC not showing up on one or the other platform.

I'd recommend buying ALL of your TS4 DLC off Steam. First your Steam DLC game keys (via your linked Steam account) will ALWAYS guarantee that you NEVER loose your DLC access on Origin. If you buy your DLC on Origin, Origin will give you several codes in case you lose access to/get locked out of your account. If you don't have those game codes, you're F@CKED.

Second, buying on Steam saves you the bloody migraine everyone is having atm with the latest round of broke @s$h@T hot fixes/updates. Which appear to have corrupted either or both of the EA Desktop/Origin clients. And don't forget the joke of a non existent CS and Tech support from Origin when you try to get help on that useless EA tech support site.

Finally, if you find that your game is too much of a broken/buggy mess, then (within the refund policy constraints) at least Steam will refund your money. Unlike Origin....
