Can no longer cancel whims?
I've just started playing again after a while and noticed that I can't get rid of whims I don't want to do, I can only pin them. Was this updated in a patch or is there something up with my game?

Whims were removed and replaced with the Wants and Fears as of the last patch (July 26th). Wants can't be manually removed but will change:

Wants

Wants are things that a Sim is willing to do. The currently-controlled Sim will have three wants above their head, which change at set intervals and situations:

Long-term wants that take some time to achieve, and rarely change.
Short-term wants that can be done quickly, and change frequently.
Reactionary wants, based on where the Sim is and their current motives.

The wants system relates more to the Sim themself and will focus on their traits more compared to whims. Just like whims, Sims are rewarded a certain amount of satisfaction points which can be redeemed for potions and bonus traits.

They did add a reward potion called "Want Refresher" for 200 satisfaction points that refreshes the wants.

Ironically with the stuck wants being what's stopping people from earning extra reward points

The fact that one of my stuck wants involves flirting with a dead and deleted Sim, presumably while my sim's Jealous Trait wife is watching.

And the other involves trashing the house so badly even my lazy slob sim can't stand it any more. My lazy slob sim virtuoso mage who scrubberoos even outdoor puddles, because after finding out he can clean the nastiest mess by waving a magical Wiimote at it, has resolved to be the cleanest lazy slob that ever existed.
