Why am I being asked to install Origin?!?!
The whole point of getting it on steam was TO NOT GET ORIGIN. How do I work around this?

Well, you should have read the fine print. I made this mistake when I get a game for the first time that required another launcher (was something from uplay). The game REQUIRES Origin. BUT, except the fact you will have resinstall the origin launcher every time Windows updates, it is mostly a painless experience.

Steam is the game vendor. But Origin is the owner of the game. There are many games on Steam that require third-party DRM checks to run. I have 3 such games. The Origin Interface has to be installed no matter who you buy the game from. The good news is, that you can buy packs on sale from both Origin & Steam. People who buy the game on Origin can only use packs from Origin. I bought my base game through Steam as well. Origin is required to use the game.

EA integrated TS4 right into Origin/EA Play back in 2014 and it's still integrated. So when there is question asked where to buy it, i mostly suggest Origin itself since you are going to be playing it from that platform regardless.

Whatever your point was, it doesn't matter. Origin or forget it.

Since the OP already bought it from Steam, they're actually better off, since it makes DLC available from BOTH Origin & Steam. If they had bought the game from Origin, they wouldn't be able to get any DLC from Steam, if it was on sale. Not that it's a big issue, since Origin has more frequent sales.

The Sims 3 did not require Origin to be downloaded before installation and especially if you already had an account for Origin. The same could not said for The Sims 4 where you need Origin in addition to steam or else you will not be able to play The Sims 4. If you do not have an account with Origin then no big deal. Create account and then try to remember its password. Once you have an account for Origin and have it downloaded as well you will be able to play The Sims 4. Instead of complaining just simply do what you are asked to do by adding Origin which it is important to keep in mind as well that even though Steam (2003) is actually older than Origin (2011) they are now working together. By the time The Sims 4 finally became available for players to play Origin was already a part of Steam.

It says it pretty clearly that you need Origin to run. It's even in a yellowish box to get your attention. I'm not sure how so many people still make this same post over and over, just read the store page of things you are buying.

Playing from steam is just a shortcut to log you into Origin in any event.

The second problem is that you are running a second DRM platform (steam) in addition to Origin, so that chews through a bit of computer resources. It's even more noticeable if you have a computer that isn't top end.

It depends now if the OP has exceeded those 2 hours played or 2 weeks owned limits.

Install Origin, is not going to kill you.

I have Origin installed for years and it didn't try to kill me, nor my computer :P I can't tell the same about Epic Store, though LOL
