To locate a game key:
1. In your Steam Library, choose the game from the list.
2. Select the cogwheel icon on the right.
3. Choose Manage and then CD Keys.
Please also note that the CD key option will only appear if the game is already installed or if the installation is started.
Alternatively, when first launching some older games, Steam will automatically display any key needed for further activation.

Third party games
CD Keys are issued with many third party games. In many cases, Steam will display your CD Key when you first launch your game. If your game launches and asks for a CD Key you do not have, please try the following:
Right-click on the game in the Library tab and select View Game CD Key. This option is not available for all Steam games and a CD Key is not required for all games.
Verify your GCF files. Follow the directions in the Verify Integrity of Game Cache section of the Verify Game Cache Files (GCF) article.
Absolutely and regardless of whether it is being installed for the first time or being reinstalled, but this thread you are commenting on is also old as well. If a thread is more than a few months old then the original thread (which it clearly says April 6, 2021) is also old as well.
