Get To Work VS Discover University VS Get Famous
I only have money for one more expansion, which one of these should I get?

Get to Work will give the most bang for a buck.

GtW gives possibility to buy Retail lots (in addition to aliens and interesting active careers and other stuff) - which synergize well with literally any other DLC (and game modifications) and is somewhat fun to run. No other DLC is anywhere close to GtW's amount of content.

Get Famous is, essentially, just a set of perks all sims may get eventually - and a plenty of Really. Annoying. Events. The game with it is as good as without it, honestly.

Discover University... Personally I got it just for the possibility to play as an entirely robotic family. Literally. The rest of us might appreciate yet another take on rental apartments and small expansion for in-game education. Also, bicycles.

yea honestly I mostly only want discover university for the servos. As for Get famous, I kinda like the world. And I feel like Get to Work is essential for alot of mods.

I already have Seasons, Cats and Dogs, City Living, Is there any other expansion pack that's pretty much essential?

Honestly, I never heard about GtW being a hard requirement for any significant modification.

Hmmmmmmm, depends on what you'd like to assemble with these, what kind of story to unravel...

Let me check the list and take few swigs of coffee...

If you'd like to play TS4 'as advertised' - a family-friendly family sim - then mandatory expansions list consists of:
Parenthood. Mandatory DLC for this playstyle.
Laundry Day and Bust the Dust will add missing core gameplay elements.
Discover University fills gaps in education.
Get Together (to have something to do aside simply living the life and raising thy siblings - your family can be your club!) and/or Seasons (celebrations for whole family!)
Stuff which alters family's lifestyle (City Living for rented flats, Tiny Living for... well... tiny living,

If you're into being... "Великолепный Гоша", как же это по-английски... забыл... To try all funny stuff:
Get to Work (for careers and interesting buildables. Also, mentioned Retail feature. Also, extra means for getting collectibles)
Dine Out (adds restaurants management)
Cats and Dogs (same but for vet clinics)
and 'story' DLCs like StrangerVille, Jungle Adventure, Paranormal. Jungle Adventure is actually quite jolly, unlike other two entries in this nomination...

DLCs I don't recommend for ANY purpose are:
Vampires (Maxis tends to break it into unplayable state with each major-DLC-related update then to keep it broken for months and months. And even if it works well - without Thirst rebalancing mods it's just... painful...)
Journey to Batuu (disgusting piece of content which have nothing to propose to anyone, be dem Star Wars fans or Sims fans)
Eco Living (ridiculously annoying - however, if your household is rich and you would like some unusual challenges, like being raided by cleptomaniac NPCs...)
Outdoor Retreat (didn't aged well - and is annoying to participate due to few design oversights. BUT this DLC's content allows living as hobo due to abundance of portable things which cover your needs... barely cover...)

As of the rest...
Realm of Magic and Get Famous are just perk packs with few extras.
Island Living offers not much gameplay-wise - but the area to live (and chill) in is really gorgeous.
Nifty Knitting is nice for immersive means of getting rid of extra collectibles - but from my point of view it's... quite redundant.
Snowy Escape and other unmentioned DLCs... honestly, for me personally it was wasted money since impact on my gameplay was barely noticeable (or unnoticeable at all). Ten days to develop a lifestyle/sentiment/whatever, sheeeeeeeesh...

I see, Thank you for the detailed reply! I'm probably going with Get to Work, it seems to have more content all around
