Mac - Origin forcing you to use Steam to play Sims 4
If anyone has any advise it would be greatly appreciated. I am also posting in the EA forums/Support but since this involves BOTH programs intercommunicating their services I am just trying to get as many lines in the water as I can.

Thank you so much!!

Context:

-I own the Sims 4 and every single DLC to date in Origin (Originally installed on my PC and MacBook Pro).

-When the Sims 4 became available on Steam, I instantly downloaded Steam onto my Mac Book Pro. Then I re-bought the Sims 4 on Steam as its a requirement to sync all my Origin DLCs with Steam.

-The Sims 4 on Steam is ONLY for PC. The Sims 4 on Origin is Mac and PC. I did not know this. I assumed it would play natively on Steam just like it does in Origin. My fault.

-I uninstalled Origin, Steam and The Sims 4 from my Mac Book Pro.

-I re-downloaded on my Mac Book Pro Origin and am trying to install The Sims 4 but Origin keeps trying to open the game with Steam (which is NOT installed.)

-I have rebooted, shut down, uninstalled the apps, downloaded the Origin Reset tool for Mac. I am a bit at a loss and NO ONE in Google seems to have asked or gotten a question for this.

Info: Mac Book Pro 2015 on Catalina
Steam: I own Sims 4 Deluxe Base game.
Origin: I own Sims 4 entire collection.

It's happening on PC as well. The Steam install overwrote the registry for Origin and will only run the Steam version (even if you purposefully launch it from Origin). Until this gets fixed, updating the rest of my Sims' guides is on hold. 🙁

I have the same issue, did you find any way to solve it?

Same problem here. Owned everything on mac, bought the steam base game on special and now I can't launch the Origin version on the mac anymore. Keeps trying to launch steam and complains of wrong platform. Any luck on a fix?

That has to be a bug. It can't be that having 2 Copies of the game now forces you to only ever play one of them, and not on the original OS. I'm going to refund this one :(

I have just had a live chat with EA support. To play on mac you need to unlink your steam account to play on the mac. But then the steam version is not playable until you link it to an EA account.

Here's an excerpt of the chat:

ME: Just to confirm then: if I buy a copy of steams sim 4 it REPLACES the copy in origin.

EA: Well the Origin copy and steam copy of the game are same but the steam copy does not comes with the entitlement to play on Mac.

ME: Ok. That's a warning then for owners of the Origin copy on mac who then decide to buy the steam version as well. They will lose the ability to play the game on Mac and are wasting their money.

EA: Well we always recommend the players to purchase the games from their parent platform but its the player decision to purchase the game from where they find it easy to purchase.

So, for us Mac players out there: if you play on Mac, DO NOT BUY THE STEAM VERSION. Refund ASAP.
