i would like to know a similar thing but not exactly. I own sims 4 with a lot on dlc on origin, and i would like to know if i buy the standard edition on steam, will it merge with my origin copy and i still get dlc or will it make a separate copy (without dlc)?

Same question here.

Most game companies would offer such and option. I wish they would offer this. But this being EA, I won't hold my breath.

I'd like to know this to. I already bought it and if you are going to force us to have origin running in the background than it's the least you could do.

I just did this, links completely fine, and when you launch it via Steam it will ask to redownload all the packs. I just copied all the expansion files from the Origin one to the Steam install, launched it, all works fine, mods too. Uninstalled the Origin one now, so I just have the Steam install.

But, you will need to buy it here on Steam first. Other than that, you can use all the DLC from Origin fine. Just make sure you log into the correct Origin account when you launch it the first time.

Did you have to buy the base game? How did you do it, if you don't mind letting me know the steps you took? Does steam still have to open Origin to play the game?

Did you have to buy the base game? How did you do it, if you don't mind letting me know the steps you took? Does steam still have to open Origin to play the game?

Steps I took:

Bought Sims 4 on Steam, sadly you have to do this and I don't think EA is gonna let you properly link and just receive it. They might, I mean we can hope! But not right now.

Anyway, downloaded it and everything. I launched it and it'll prompt you to connect an Origin account. Log in with your account that has The Sims 4 with all your DLC on it. Now if you open the instance of Origin that just got launched at the same time you can see a new The Sims 4 with the word STEAM on it.

So to move all my DLC, I went to where my game was installed originally. For me that was "G:/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4", so try looking around for an "Electronic Arts" folder, or an "Origin Games" folder till you find it. Open up in another window the Steam installation, which will be like ".../Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/The Sims 4". Copied over every EP01, FP01, GP01, SP01, all the numbers, from the old installation, into the new Steam installation. I then uninstalled and hid the old installation in the Origin library. You might do good for closing and restarting Sims 4 via Steam at this point, and hopefully, as it worked for me, launching it through Steam will now open up Sims 4 with all your DLC installed. :)

(If you're not on Windows I'm not sure where your installation folders are, but the idea is the same)

@Dakoda:

Did this method link all your DLC as well? AKA does it show the DLC as purchased in steam?

Using this trick, won't Steam still show that you don't own the DLC? Can you completely uninstall Origin doing it this way?
